Some NEW photos of the BEAST with 20's!!!!!!

Rear Wheels: HRE542R - 20x10: 275/30/20 ContactSport2 tires
Front Wheels: HRE542R - 20x9: 245/30/20 ContactSport2 tires

Absolutely no modifications. Car is totally stock (not lowered).

No rubbing whatsoever; ride is suprisingly forgiving, better than I expected.

Handling is noticeably better, and acceleration seems unchanged.

JAY55 Apr 29, 2005 08:48 PM

Damn those wheels are freakin' sick. Good choice man, now you should take it to Steve when he's in Orange County this May to lower it. :y :y

Mattar Apr 29, 2005 09:07 PM

Sweet ride my friend sweet ride :y i cant wait to get my wheels the wait is killing me :hammer:

E55 Rocket Apr 29, 2005 09:19 PM

Thank you. I had to wait around 6 weeks for these wheels, and it seemed like an eternity! Definitely WORTH the wait!

eagleeye Apr 29, 2005 11:39 PM

Wow! Great great pick. I think I have a little buyers remorse with my HRE pick.

Now, get a euro front bumper strip and you are done.

Tezta Apr 30, 2005 01:22 AM

wait are those directional? i could swear that they are but ive never seen HRE 542's made like that.

TMans Apr 30, 2005 02:48 AM

Nice wheels!

you can point them either way, just a matter of preference

alexWS6 Apr 30, 2005 02:51 AM

Beautiful car btw! wouldnt change a thing cept maybe a little tint

silversurfer Apr 30, 2005 03:34 AM

so...just to reiterate

there is no rubbing front or rear..and there are no clearance issues with any protuding suspension or fender bolts...?

Just need to be clear b/c these were two possible issues that were communicated to me with your exact wheel/tire size choices on an E55. I don't want to run into any issues.

Looks great by the way. I will be a proud new HRE papa soon as well. :y

p.s. boy those tires could stand to be a few mm wider just to protect those rims from nasty curbs...especially in the rear...I wonder if a 285/20/20 would work as well?

z1co Apr 30, 2005 04:00 AM

Nice wheels... Smoke your rear lights, remove the amber side marker, lower your car and you are good to go :y

R. Range Apr 30, 2005 10:34 AM

Very nice. If you're using a taller tire like that, is there a way to reprogram things so that the speedo is accurate and the odo doesn't pile up a false number of miles on the car? And I guess there is no way to deal with the reduction in overall gear ratio a taller tire causes short of changing out the rear end. It would be interesting to see what the difference is in the 1/4 with stock tires and a 1" taller one like this, if there is any.

Correct, there is no rubbing front or rear..and there are no clearance issues whatsoever with suspension or fender bolts.

As far as 285's in place of the 275's, the recommended size was 275. I believe 285 might have issues with either rubbing or offset issues causing the wheel to stick outside of the fender.

Below is the breakdown between stock and modified wheel sizes. The larger tire actually has fewer revolutions per mile than stock, so if anything, miles accumlated would be less:

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
265/35-18 3.7in 12.7in 25.3in 79.5in 797 0.0%
275/30-20 3.2in 13.2in 26.5in 83.2in 761 4.7%

Simply Beautiful!!! :y

R. Range Apr 30, 2005 02:33 PM

Rocket, that's some good info. I'd love to know how much the difference in effective gearing affects timed acceleration runs. Maybe someone who has run 20's at the track will chime in. My guess is probably not a lot.

It looks like you should be OK even though you jumped a whole inch in the back in diameter. I guess thats why your car shows less fender gap. I think the exact fitment to match up would have been the Pirelli tires at 285x25x20.... thats the new plus size tire.

silversurfer Apr 30, 2005 05:17 PM

yeah...

I think that I would want to go to a 285 in the rear to protect my $6000 dollar rims..concerns about rubbing though?

That's what my set up is for the rear 285/30/20, my 840R (always bet on black) is coming this week, been waiting close to 6 weeks already. The painful part was that I had to buy a set of Tire Pressure Sensors, freakin' $288 each.

silversurfer Apr 30, 2005 05:38 PM

285/30...

as opposed to 285/25...? Where did you get the TPMS from (MB direct)?

Driver55er May 1, 2005 09:12 PM

Really nice match!! Looks like a perfect fit!! Hot Hot Hot
