Hey guys . . . I wasn't trying to start a flame war or anti-BMW thread . . . my buddy what owns an M3 asked me to post the that link here to see if any of you would be interested in a friendly (or not) contest. All I know about the car(s) in question is that the owners spent about $20k+ in mods and have to run the cars on race gas AND methanol injection to keep them out of detonation . . . with only 5psi . . . that and they only pick up around 60whp from the blower. One of these "geniuses" is the moderator of that forum . . . I hear he gets a little "testy" when anyone questions his expenditures with Active Autowerke (seller of the blower kits) and has a tendancy to ban folks for dissing them.

Good choices!!!
I love the Hi performance Benz cars because they are forced induction, not in spite of it!!! Factory forced induction (turbo/supercharger) makes for a greaqt deal of tunability. Look at what some guys are doing with 4 cylinder Subarus and Evos.
I think that even after the AMG 63 cars come out, there will be many modded 55's out there with a ton more HP and torque.

This post has went way off topic.
Let's get back to the issue at hand
I drove both 05 BMW's and 06 Mercedes.
Mercedes=Luxury+Speed.
BMW=Sparse+NVH=Speed
Not trying to flame, just pointing out the obvious.
You know what I drive.

Cars and boats!
damn, and it was getting entertaining too... maybe they'll register here and continue the battle on our turf !!! Nonetheless, both excellent cars, both built for a different purpose and a different driver... though Id love to see how this ongoing battle would perspire at the end!!!

From a simplistic generalization, I can't imagine a 3.2L s/c i-6 capable of out muscling a 5.4L s/c v-8. The M3 engine has had many bottom-end woes. I can't see it surviving long s/c. Also, I think there was a competition with an AA E46 M3 against several other heavily modded cars on C&D and it didn't even finish in the top 6 or something like that. I was embarrassed for it. The M3 is clearly great car and well respected car during its time. It blows away the previous gen C32. But, it's getting out-dated compared to it's updated competitors.

2005 Brilliant Silver E55
Damn, I'm getting a M5 in Nov...I'm almost scared to post here now
RennTech V12, you did exactly what I was planning on doing to a SL600...just never got around to buying a SL. Man, your 1/4 mile time is great.
BTW, a blown M3 sounds pretty impressive. I've always heard horror stories about RMS "destroying" some local guy's M Coupe by trying to put a blower on it so I didn't think anyone would ever go that route.
I've read somewhere on a United Flight (must have been a London flight because they had left a car mag) anyway, the article was an 03 E55 vs 03 911TT (don't recall if it was X50) and they were stating how from 80 to 150, the E55 reached 150mph first.
Spero, go and represent man...btw, I hate you for letting me drive your car, I REALLY MISS MY E55 and CL55
BTW, no Z06 for me...I got a call that they are going to charge me $10K above MSRP after freakin waiting like a year for the damn car on the waiting list. "Good news, Joe (he's the VP of the entire co.) came by and told me that we're going to give you a price relief of $2500....off the adjusted market value". I almost fell out of my chair.

Just think about the guys who bought their '03 SL500's for 20k over back when they first hit the US. Those cars are worth what a guy bought a used one for in late '03.

Stock E55 vs. divexxtreme's M3, my money would be on the M3. It has a much better power to weight ratio and on the highway, the M3 would be in the meat of it's powerband. Sorry guys.

theres a 500rwhp m3 csl around also.The tuners are just starting to mess with the e46 with f/i
the aa kit is not that much to brag about its a low boost stock bolt on kit(+manifold) and runs 5.5 psi
you should see what ics is doing to m3's up in ct
they have a few 800+rwhp monster turbo m3s over there.

Well I test drove the Alpina S/charged B5 (545 motor) a few weeks back and it does not come close to the E55 - at least that was the impression I got. Dealer claimed >500hp , 700nm torque ... blah blah - there is no way it has that much peak torque. Intercooler is more inteligent though - sits in front of the car with radiator.
Drove them about a month apart but the MB test had me sign the order the following day. The BMW B5 left me with no regrets at all - the HUD was quite cool.
Anyhow - All these cars are great some just greater than others....
Rgds Steve.

From a dig, I'd give the race to the E55 by a pretty wide margin but from 80 mph or 100 mph up I'd be inclined to give the nod to the supercharged M3. He's already going so the lack of low end torque wouldn't be much of a factor anymore and his gearing could make-up for the lack of tq. However, it would be very close. Again, that's assuming he is a decent driver. A modified E55 racing the M3 would be like that commercial that has a Dodge truck with the Viper engine blowing the doors off everything it passes. The modified E55 would simply blow the doors off a 400 RWHP M3 at any speed.

Just read that thread over at the M3 Forum...
Looks like Marcus responded with the truth and all they could say was "jeez, this guy is flaming us so let's lock this thread". Please, how pathetic. They can't even argue simple points...all they can do is just flame and lock the thread and then have the nerve to tell us that we're doing the flaming over here...get real. Looks like the M3 board just got owned by Marcus, if you ask me.

2004 M3 A.A. supercharged v. 2005 E55 bone stock
my friends brother in laws m3 was the first 2004 m3 they supercharged, active autowerks had to remap the e.c.u for 2004 because of some difference from the 2003 and earlier e.c.u., his car was running the 5.5 lbs of boost at first and when i raced him from a dead stop and from a roll from various speeds i won every time by two car lengths,since then they increased the boost to 7 lbs,i haven't raced him yet but he was only running a couple of mph faster at the track. A.A has had success w/their turbo setups but not so with the e46 m3 supercharged cars
