Videos: E55 vs C5

E55 vs C5. The quality of the videos isn't that great, but I still think they're cool. The video freezes about half way through the first one. Of course neither car exceeded the speed limit! :)
The videos take a few seconds to load a play (a few MINUTES with dial-up).

Yes, but the E55 is stock and the C5 has mods bringing it from 300 rwhp to 500 rwhp. :y

CE750 10-09-2005 10:49 PM

I am surprised the C5 was faster..

Vic55 10-09-2005 11:23 PM

With 500rwhp the C5 should beat a stock E55 IMO. A stock E55 has around 380 hp at the wheels so it didnt get beat that bad.

CA_E55 10-09-2005 11:27 PM

I had a '03 C5 with a 6 speed and even my wife would spank me driving the E55

Yeah you are right I was just taking the published 469 crank HP and taking away 19% drivetrain loss. I know our cars are underpowered on paper.

CE750 10-10-2005 12:21 AM

is 19% the only loss? I always thought it was closer to 35%

Oops.....then, that video was KICK A$$!!!

Woulda been nice to know that....makes a huge diff in the way you view the vid. 55 should be able to hand a c5's a$$ to it.

Thanks for the info.

19% is on the safe side, some argue as low as 15% for the AMG's. over 20% is usually AWD only and that doesn't really go above 25%

CE750 10-10-2005 05:44 PM

wow, I didn't know that! so my CDI is about 20%? That makes for about 400 lb/ft torque based on my Dyno... no bad, but not the 427 I was promised..

Why the rolling start?

Rock 10-10-2005 06:57 PM

Listen to the loud whine of the vet's supercharger. I think the E55 did very well against that car.

I LOVE that whine! It scares the cra$ out of people when I blow by 'em. I was also surprised by the E55s ability to "hang." I'm afraid it would be a lot worse with a little more open road though.

Why the rolling start?
The 6 speed in the Vette is hard to launch even with drag radials. I just wanted to test performance without having to worry about launching technique (or toasting my clutch).

The Vette is fun, BUT it won't get my kid's to school! The E55 is by the far the most fun all-around car I've ever had. :)

LPE, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering :D , will mod Corvettes from mild to wild. It can take a Z06 from stock to 420hp with just some bolt ons or 500, 600, 700, 800 or more rwhp with their macdaddy 427TT setups. If you have the money to spend, they can make whatever # you want to see.

So what was the Z06 that you raced? :)
