first service, 10k, whats the price tag and possible problems

Hey guys,

About to send the 55 in for its first service. Wondering how much mercedes is going to rip me off for an oil change? Also wondering if there was anything I should specifcally ask them to look at (engine, trani, suspension) to avoid any future problems....

No idea how much for the scheduled service. My car is an '04, so scheduled maintenance is provided at no cost. :y

With regard to specific questions to ask, maybe all dealerships do it and I just think that I'm getting special treatment, but I always ask my SA to check for "fault codes." Every once in a while they find something (minor items).

Don't know if you have any mods, but that's a whole different debate: inform vs. not inform the dealership; hope that they don't notice; grease the SA with a little $, etc.

Just did the 10K - $335.28 for essentially an oil change, which they were able to botch up by adding 8 instead of 9 quarts of oil....

JAY55 12-07-2005 09:43 PM

I paid about $230 for 10K service.

I'm sure you had a lot of confidence in that service center after that oil incident!! that is ridiculous!!

That is absurd to botch up a $335 oil change... Which service center (in SF Bay Area?) is this?

Yes, please tell me.... I usually go to Smythe European.... but thinking of going to 969 motorsports in San Carlos. Last time I went for service, they charged me around $1100 for Service B (or A, which one is smaller? I forgot :D ), replacing something under the center console (they told me if I didn't get this replaced / checked, it could trigger the air bags :nix: ), flush the radiator and some other small things.

I think I got ripped off..... but I just got an accident that time and got bruises b/c of freakin' BMW air bags.... so no more air bags for me :D and didn't think much to say yes to SA's suggestions.

Its MB of Oakland - for me, what's just as disturbing was their explanation - i.e. there is usually up to a quart of old oil they cant remove, hence the lower reading when refilling. I cant believe MB would design an engine that leaves more than 10% of the old oil in there to contaminate the fresh filling? Anybody else heard of this?

10k service is only oil change and greasing hood/trunk hinges and other inspection bull****. $100 at the local foreign car place, skip the dealer

Does not that void the warranty if not done by the extortionist (I mean dealer)?

regor60 12-11-2005 09:30 AM

No, as long as you can demonstrate that it was done through receipts

If you do it yourself or have an indy shop do it, how do you reset the service indicator?

regor60 12-11-2005 11:30 AM

Resetting the indicator is apparently more tricky than with a BMW, which requires a tool. there are apparently a number of software steps that need to happen. So I'd ask first if they can do it.

I just paid a little over $200 for my first service. Besides the oil and filter change, they replaced the pollen filter.

just got my 10k service done...took to the dealership and told them to change the oil and reset the service indicator only...$130.

the service indicator can be reset right at the dashboard. You access the fss menu the same way you do to check the actual oil level.

Turn on the key, hit reset button on dash three times, go to outside temp/speed on display menu, hit the arrow to go to the next menu and it wil take you into the fss menu.

I paid $225. It may be a glorified oil change (which I also go to the dealer for), but 10K is a good time to let them get a good look and make sure nothing major is wrong.
