I've decided to trade in my 530xi for an E550. Should be a nice stablemate for my E55 and the upcoming ML63.

Can someone please run an E63 and an E550 on the same dyno and the same day so we can see the hp differences.

Correct!

If you guys like those E550 numbers get a W210 E55 for $25 to $35k and put a Kleemann on it for $11k and get 560HP! MBZ stated the W210 E55 was 5.4 and Motor Trend squeezed 4.8 from it along with 13.3 and 107.1.

I bought an E63 after test driving an E550 and an E63 back to back. It is a huge difference, and it is not just straight line acceleration, which seems to be the drug of the MB over BMW fans, but the steering and the braking are much better than the prior E55 or obviously the E550. It is not just the badge. The suspension of the E63 is also markedly improved than the prior AMG and the car handles much better than the E550. You add a lot of standard features, suede headliners, side gills, and several other and the E63 is a much better car than an E550. But if you are just considering a 0.3 second difference...then whatever catches your fancy...get the E550 and you will win a lot of stoplight drag races. For me, a car is much more than just 0-60 times. There is always a premium for the AMG batch, but when you consider the differences, it is much more less than 20-25k suggested here.

Are you saying the E550 and the W210 E55 have the same motor!? That's too good to be true.

The new BMW 335 Twin Turbo does 0-60 in 4.9 (manual) according to the new car and driver and lists for $48k loaded. I test drove one today, the car feels very fast with lots of low end torque, actually max torque starts at 1400 rpms. The car I drove had steptronic which I think is even faster than the manual. This car is the performance bargin of the year.

He said the performance figures between the W211 E550 and W210 E55 are very similar. I think you misunderstood him. Also, this newer motor is more advanced than the N/A AMG 5.4 Litre. 32V versus 24V, DOHC versus SOHC, and all with the addition of the former 5.0 V8 MPG rating.

I agree with your perpective but am confused by the reference to a "0.3 second difference".

If you are referring to the 0 - 60 times, I would think a more accurate number to use would be a 0.5 second difference. The factory quotes a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds for the E63. That assumes you believe the E63 factory quote and ignore the very conservate E550 factory quote (5.4 secs).

I was referring to CynCarvin32 comments in which he comments on a "0.3 second" difference. I agree with you it is a 0.5 sec difference if you use 4.8 on the E550 C&D test vs the MB quoted 4.3, but since you seem to also be an E63 AMG owner, you would probably agree that all the discussion about the fraction of a second difference in 0-60mph is splitting hairs and probably a shortsighted way of evaluating the E63 attributes and doing a head to head with the E550, particularly the differences in steering, suspension, and braking against the prior E55 AMG or the E550. An example on an exercise on splitting hairs about 0-60; if you really think about it, taking an average 70kg male, it is more like a 4.2 0-60 if you just had a bowel movement and your bladder has just been emptied, but a 4.5 second 0-60 if you just hit the buffet line at your local restaurant. And, if you just had sex, had a bowel movement, did not just hit the buffet line, just emptied your bladder, clipped your nails, and exhale right before getting in the car and not take a breath until you do the 0-60 test, then you can probably do it in 4.0324 seconds. I can do this all day, but I will stop myself now.

I do understand the passion of the E55 owners regarding the straight line performance of their cars. I do not fault them for this, or for criticizing a replacement car that may be slower in the quarter mile.

Having acknowledged this, I have to say, the more time I spend in the E63, the more I love it for its other virtues too, as you mentioned. While it may be a couple tenths slower in the quarter mile, I am finding out it really handles much better than the E55.

What's the point of having an E550 and an E55? I don't get it.

I don't drive the E55 everyday, maybe once in awhile, hence the low 800 miles on the clock since when I bought it in June. The 530Xi was my daily driver, even though it's a good car, but I guess I am spoiled by my other Mercedes that my wife and me own. The feel of driving a BMW is just not up to what I like about the Mercedes, so it's time for the Bimmer to go. On the other hand, my family finds the E class to be a bit more comfortable than the 5 series. The E550 will be my daily driver, and I am looking forward to clock some miles on it real quick.

Why don't you just use the E55 as your daily driver? Just wondering.

More than that. If we use the factory 0-60 numbers the difference is 1.1 seconds. The factory states the E63 is 4.3 and the E550 is 5.4 which is a 1.1 second difference.

Wow! So the factory is conservative in its claims! That means if we take 1.1 sec off the actual real life E550 0-60 4.8 sec, we get a 3.7 sec E63!
That is 997 Turbo territory.

How Many camshafts are in a 2007 E350

I am having issues with my camshaft. I had it replaced but now my check engine came on again and now they told me its another camshaft. I want to know how many camshafts are in an engine and how do they work. I know has a DOHC 24-valve V-6. Aluminum-alloy cylinder block. But I am not sure what that means.

Thanks!!

Wow ... wrong thread and wrong forum, but I'm gonna go with 4. One intake and one exhaust cam (hence Dual OverHead Cam ... DOHC) per bank.

E550 sure is a lot of car for the money, but the E_63 numbers are stated way high. MB_Forever and friends ran 4 3.9sec 0-60's in a row.

That sounds more like a car with nearly 130more hp.
