Why not just use the intake from the NA CLK 208/209 or 210? Just a thought

Ok, let me ressurrect this thread.

I am currently getting ready to buy my first benz, (03 or 04 E55) in a month or 2, and I have wanted to twin turbo (or even single turbo) the car for many reasons.

I have done lots with turbos on other cars, and would like to get some solid peices of information about the E55 by way of obstacles with the car in building the kit.

From what I see, there are a few things that will post problems...

1. Supercharger electronics and ECU issues...? Specifically what does this mean?

2. Clearance issues for mounting turbos, intercooler ect.

3. Custom intake manifold will need to be built. Can we use a manifold off of a N/A 55 motor?

4. Anything else? I seriously will be the first to do this on this board, if no one else does...

By the way, anyone seen this car?...

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=840806

It is an AMG supercharged twin turbo charged subaru STI. Supercharger provides boost in the low end and helps assist the turbos in spooling, and then once the turbos are spooled up, the supercharger turns off and the turbos do the rest. The car is 100% drivable and tuned. I think it could be done with or without the SC on the e55.

A TT C55 is in the final stages of build in a shop in Colorado Springs. Should be a beast.

That car was a show car. The engine was stock, the dyno numbers were mediocre, and it never made a single pass down the 1/4 mile. Looks good, but that's about it.

The guy who is building the TT C55 built my twin charged Evolution. The Evo was an impressive piece of engineering had no lag and ran in the 10's. The C55 is going to be a beast!

I would love to turbocharge a CLK55! I talked to ICS about it and was told that the hardware is the easy part. The tuning is the hard part! And the tranny probably couldnt hold that much power either.

G55k- Is the TT C55 a remote mount turbo system?

Vrus, what's the word? Project still going?

For the life of me I don't understand why some tuner hasn't come up with a TT or replacement s/c for the 55k cars. With what people are paying for a few hp here and a few there from pulleys, cams, TB's, etc. I can't imagine it wouldn't be profitable to take advantage of an OEM engine designed for FI with a better flowing system. Then again, maybe I've answered my own question, as a replacement s/c or TT sytem that would add 150-200 hp for say 10-15k would pretty much mean the end of $3,000 airboxes.

Although a TT on our 55's would be cool, a TT on a 63 with the Tranz fixed would be FN awesome!

I have my motor & tranz out at the moment for some work, so if you require any photos of the bay or specific part shots, measurements etc... let me know.

In regards to this problem, I wonder if we could learn something from the TT 65 set up or at least use some of the existing bits. I think plumbing is the real challenge here and would require some real innovative engineering to produce an acceptable result.

Let's not bolt the turbos on the tail pipes... Remember the BMW..

My 2 cents worth...

I didn't read the thread and i'm tired but soon I will be turboing my E350 and will have a custom ecu set-up and want to beat the power of the HPF M3, hopefully you guys will see it by the end of the year and I should have the kit out for sale sometime in 2008 but It won't be at the rediculous price that HPF has for thier M3 turbo or the big name supercharger prices

You think you're going to beat 600whp on a E350 for less than $15k? Good luck, I hope you get er done!

How you are going to achieve those power levels of HPF and keep it at a cost point below the competition is beyond me. Turbo tuning although uncomplicated would present a real challenge on a base 350 ECU as well you'd have to address the stock exhaust and intake system. No offense, but arent you the same guy that suggested i put leaded race gas in my car

the c16 thing was a joke, didn't you read the other post after that I was just telling you to put race gas in it I said C16 because i didn't feel like typing out 100 octane or 110 octane but whatever

and I doubt I'll be able to surpass their power at low boost because they are using a relatively big turbo (T67), and I want instant response and also I'm working on gettin a ecu with built in two step so I won't have the same traction issues as the M3
blackbenzz- thanks for the support

you are talking about 600HP and you want to keep traction, thats not realistic is it...those two dont exactly go together. Whatever you do dont put C16 in it Go buy yourself some nitrous and call it a day, your turbo project sounds far fetched.

at C16, i'm never gonna live that down
anyways, we'll see about my turbo it will get done and will hook because I will also do supporting suspension mods, plus the two step will definately help with traction issues

That car was actually a daily driver, it made 450whp and had 15 psi by about 2300rpms on a 2.5 liter motor. Ive talked to many people who have riden in his car, and have been in it while he would launch and spin all the wheels at about 1500rpms. Anywas, that car is not the topic of conversation here, I just wanted to post a pic because it has an AMG supercharger, and it has a clutch that turns the supercharger off or rather bypasses it once the turbos make enough boost. All I am trying to proove is that the system is WAY doable, I think the way he did it was lots less cluster ****ish than your EVOs system.

Lets get back on topic, and figure this out.

Who has some info on the colorado c55 being built? THat will likely be our start in the quest to build a turbo e55 project.

Just to give you guys an update... I guess not alot of you know what happened...

When I started talking about this I teamed up with DerekFSU and we were going to build this together and use his car as a prototype and proof of concept.. My car was being used for experimentation in other areas, so when Derek offered, it was perfect.

We had a fabricator and shop all setup to do the work in (Derek got all of that lined up for us) but later on it was decided his wife was going to get the car and he wanted to concentrate more on his racing so he had to bow out..

I am still pursuing this, but, because of all the things I am doing to/with the car, I have to leave the 2 turbos until last.. They will be the icing on top of the cake so to speak.

Once I am done with the engine and have the car where I want it, I will be adding 2 turbos to make the car a Twin-Charged E55.

I will be releasing some more details by Monday or Tuesday... There is some engine related information that I will post about and then you will understand what the roadmap is.

Less cluttered than my Evo's system except I made over 700 whp and ran in the 10's and the STI made 450 whp (doable on the stock Evo turbo) and never ran. The Evo supercharger also had a bypass clutch and disengaged completely once the turbo was spooled. In addition the liquid intercooler system could be super cooled on the line by the A/C compressor. If you're just going for a look, and performance is not important, there are many less expensive options.

BTW, the individual building the TT C55 is the same person who built my Evo. He's very talented and builds cars with the priority being placed firmly in the performance catagory. If you're just after shiny engine bay he's not the right guy.

Also, the system isn't "way doable." It's extremely difficult and a very expensive way to make power. I strongly recommend a twin turbo system as it will make as much power for less money with less complexity. I've been through this and trust me, you don't know what you're getting into. If you don't believe me go for it and I'll talk to you in a year when you're still trying to figure it out.

Victor - I'm just down the road from DerekFSU and might be talked into providing the test mule, if I don't have any luck selling the beast in the near future. The car is completely stock, don't know if that helps/hurts for your purposes.

Hey Eric,

Would be awesome but Derek is really busy these days.. I havent talked to him in a while, but last time we spoke, he was having a ball with his racing.. He's devoted alot of his free time to that so I dont think he will have the cycles to devote to this project.

In any case, if you still have the car and are interested, shoot me a PM.. I'll give you some details and we can go from there.. We've got the programming part in place to be able to take care of the electronics issues so its a matter of finding a good fabricator to make the manifolds and downpipes.

Anyone have a good connection with someone that specializes in fabricating Turbo manifolds????
