climbing hills

I noticed a difference between the W210 E55 and the E63 when climbing hills. When stopped on a hill, the E55 could sit there without me stepping on the brake pedal, whereas the E63 would slide back if I didn't use the brake pedal. This was noticed on the same hill I drive daily.

Is this unusual or something to be concerned about? Does the W211 E55 do the same?

It feels like I'm driving my underpowered Honda Accord when this happens.

That was a feature that was deleted during the W211 era. Older ones have it, newer ones don't. Nothing to be worried about. Underpowered honda? Floor it and see how Hondaish it feels?

Thanks, jangy.

It's too bad MB did away with a nice safety feature. Especially when the idiot behind me is riding my bumper when stopped on a hill going up.

Will take your advice and floor it...

In my '03 E55 if the transmission is in 'comfort' mode it won't roll back - and starts in second gear. Great for very steep inclines.
