Oil Questions

Searched around but didn't find anything. I am looking to put 10W-60 Liqui Moly oil..the shop i go to recommends them highly. What do you guys think....I know the factory recomends 5W-40. Any opinions?

I guess I chalk this up on how paranoid someone is about warranty more than anything else.

I like running Mobil 1 15W50 in the warmer temps in Chicagoland. I'm convinced it works better overall for the car than the 40 (maybe I lose 10 HP). I also run my oil levels slightly high (whether 40 or 50). The 50 stays clean for a long time, so I'm not worried about any "tight clearance requires thing oil" nonsense.

If I were in Cali/warmer states and was faced with warm temps? Yes, I would consider a 60 weight. I'd go 70 if someone was a trail blazer on this before me.

I suggest you use what MB/AMG recommend........they did design and build the engine, so they should know what's best.

They can and will void your warranty using unapproved oil. You don't have to use Mobil 1, but you do have to use what's approved. It's not being paranoid, they have done it to others.

If I remember correctly, MBz recommends 0W-40 for the E55. 5W-40 should be fine.

I would not go to 10W-60 that is just way too thick. Our car is built with certain clearance that may not work as well with such thick oil. Unless your car is totally modded I would follow recommended oil weight. I do not see any reason for you to use this oil.
