Anyone traded their 211 E55 for an E63? Was it worth it?

Ok I have the opportunity to get an E63 (White on Pano) for dirt cheap brand new. I am in the business so the dealer is offering me an employee deal with the money factor at .00115, and while paying less for a nice car is important its not that big of deal.

My question for the respected members of this forum and the community is: Should I trade in a relatively highly modified well running 2004 E55 with all the bells and whistles for a new E63. I know my E55 will be faster but is that the end all decision to keep this car. I have put a lot of money into my e55, maybe not the most of anyone here, but a lot. I feel I have got almost every penny back in driving and visual experience. The problem I have is that I am bored with the car and am considering dumping it since its well past my 2 year life of average ownership I have with cars. But is the E63 that much of a change?

I guess if I got the E63 I would just move my C21 wheels over and do some minor cosmetic mods but would the change to the normally aspirated motor from my stage II car be acceptable? Thoughts???

Not all of you know about my E55 but it has the Evosport mods (stage I and II) plus HRE wheels, Evo rotors, AMG LSD, Eisenmann exhaust, CLS steering rack and bushings, Evo Cooling package, plus other lesser upgrades include radio mods. The car has run well for a very long time and if I dont consider this move, other ideas have come to mind. I have considered an M5, and a 997TT but the TT is just a little over the top for me since I already have a CL65 too. I know they are apples and oranges but I need a 4 door sedan.

I love the thought of having a white 63 with the pano but will all the cosmetics and nicer interior amenities wear out their welcome and will I miss the brutal torque and hp that I have with my Stage II car? My car is probably putting out 485-495 hp at the wheels plus 540+tq but I havent had a dyno done on it to confirm lately.

I just figured I'd ask you guys since opinions are well valued here and this is why I visit this forum and moderate it on a daily basis.

Here is my take. I've had the feel that you are done with the silver bullet. It is a great ride, but you are done! You have the 65, so you can always get that TQ feel when you want it.
I say get the E63, just to tide you over until you decide what you really want. I'm sure you are getting a daddy deal and could always swap out the lease if you wanted.
To me, the E63 is nowhere near as "rough" as the 55K. But, you've been there and done that. I think the fresh interior, color, etc. is a cool switch up.
The only thing to accept BEFORE you do it is that you will no longer be the fastest on our little road blasts. The E63 will hang, but it likely won't be the fastest of the modded cars. Also, there are plenty of mods coming out for the E63 that you may later choose to get.
Good luck, bro!!

i wouldnt switch especialy if you gonna keep the same wheels and tires. white is my favorite color in the AMG line up but still not worth the trade. of coarse if you were gettin fat cash for the 55 and like you said dirt cheep for the 63 it might be worth it just to have a 3 year newer car other than that nope.
on that note i just started lookin at F-cars i like the 2002-2004 360 in yellow can you get me one of thoes cheep?

You just gave me a reason to keep the 55 ... so I can continue to lead the pack on the road blasts

If you're looking for a car that engages the driver more, I'd look at the porsches once again if I were you. A 997 Turbo S is civilized and may not have the massive grunt ur used to on the 65 but it's definitely no slouch....added with the fact of AWD on that car....it'll give you a different driving experience all together on handling...that and it's still plenty comfortable to be a daily driver. Now if you're looking for a really engaging car that may not be as soft but is a blast to drive as a RWD....I'd be looking at a GT3. But moving on to an e63 personally wouldn't be my pick....but then again I may never buy another benz again either. =P

I'll be taking that crown soon enough. It just depends if you wanna loose it or just have it taken by default. Look at it this way; if you dump it, you won't actually lose and can always claim whatever you'd like.

Vic ,

get the sixty three

lets level the playing field .

Once you have your ne ride you can join the 63 track club, drink beer and be #1. You can always use the 65 to bury fools on the fwy, and the 63 is plenty fast to suprise some people. Hey man you could be the #1 63 in the USA? How is your best time in your 55? Is it #1???? The color combo is the #1 looking car IMO. Simon is developing some good stuff for the 63!

As much as I want your eisenmann exhaust, I definitely wouldn't trade in your E55 for an E63. What happens in 2 years when they come out with a turbo version of the E63??? I think this na E63 is just an interim/filler car. If you're looking for a change get an M6 or M5.

Wait til the W212 E63 twin turbo is available. That will be a real improvement.

Any thing else will be anticlimactic.

E63 Envy luv it. Why not get the 63 then in two- three years trade it in for something new. I don't keep cars for more than three years.

I say make the switch..........that just puts one more car on the road that I know I can stomp.

Seriously, Vic63 just doesn't roll off the tongue like Vic55.

As much as I love the color combo of the 63...I drove a friends E63...I get more or a rush driving my E55, then his and I had his for an hour...Dont do it, you have the baddest, fastest E55, and When I 1st came onto this bored I looked up to your car, and I know your remember the countless things ive said to you about it...IMO keep it, its freakin sick, Im just not feeling the E63, I could have switched out but didnt for the love of the supercharger, and the feel of the power...but then again uve got the 65

Doesn't sound like $$ is that much of a problem since you have a 65 too, so why not do more research and get the actual car you want, options color and all. You will have a chance to spend time with the 63 and make a smarter decision. There is always a good deal to be had somewhere. my .02

Heck Vic get the 63. Are you going for a lease? That money factor is awesome and that White w/ Pano will be AWESOME! If you turn off that ESP it will SCREAM.....

Going from a highly modified E55 to a stock E63 is a downgrade.

2022 RAM TRX - 2023 911 Turbo 2019 Wrangler 2022 E63s Wagon
Talking

I had the same dilema and I have close family that is in the biz as well so the cost was a non issue.
I drove a 63 for a week and put 500 miles on it. the 63 was not different enough for me to feel like I was driving a new car, and even slower for sure. the handling was better and i like the slightly more aggresive look of the 63 but all that said I kept the 55.
I did a couple of exterior mods (65 wheels trunk lip flat hood ornament and had grill painted exterior color midnight blue) and fell back in love with her for the short term. a 911 turbo is next on my list but other than that there is nothing that comes close to the overall superiority of the e55....
but i waited to order mine now till i can get an 08 (911 turbo) and hopefully the new dual clutch tiptronic tranny. I was hopoing the audi S8 was going to be faster and more aggressive but it is not fast at all. I thought about the audi R8 which i could get for dealer cost as well but there is no utility and i really would not want people staring at me all the time....... keep the 55! For me it is the best thing on the road under 150k.

It all depends on who you ask and what their priorities are. Maybe for me but I also like the new creature comforts and handling that the 63 throws down. Thanks to all of you for comments so far. I think it maybe a step down but its a 24 month lease so I am not bound to it.

I do need a good daily driver- while the 65 is nice its not really practical to put miles on also.

Isnt there someone who owned a 55 for while and got the 63? The dealer is willing to let me keep the car for a few days so that may be the decision maker.

I have to say some of the creature comforts on my 07 CL600 are totallyannoying ( like I cannot just press one button to change channel on radio or go to nav) be careful what you wish for!

keep the 55, it's a beauty/beast. m5? have been there w/ Dinan tune etc.-the 55 is a keeper (best i have owned, so far-even vs my prior 993 p-car that was tuned too). can you take a shot at the Ascari?

Here is my 2 cents if you want to hear it...

It seems as if you are over that whole power stage or at least it's subsiding a little bit. I say go ahead and get it...You can't beat a White AMG...well at least it floats my boat Some people say it's a downgrade to go from your car to a E63, but then again taht is what your CL is for. When you want to run down the freeway like a bat outta hell you take that. But for the rest of the time, I think a very slightly bolt-on modded E63 would be an awesome daily. It helps that yer in the industry so you can get killer deals...

There...that was my 2 cents...

You drove a 63 a while back at the tia juanas meet right? What did you think of the power? I'm sure it's not as powerful as your 55 so that might be a deciding factor. But i do understand about getting into something new. Although the one thing you'll regret is everytime you stomp on the gas, won't be the same and i know how you love to stomp on it.

Got a loaded 2007 E63 Wagon last week. Quicker that the 2004 SL55 that I unloaded a month ago. Seven speed is light years ahead of the five speed. Transition of power is smoother. No more of the herky jerky supercharger cut in cut out. Hooks up much harder than the SL55. It's unbelievable how many socalled hot dogs you can suck up with this car.
