Changing Limited Slip Differential Oil in E63 P30
After the initial rear diff change, what is the service interval? also what about the tranny? How often should this be changed? I've gone 40K in some vehicles, 50K in others. Thought I read it was sealed in this car but I think a high perf car should have the tranny fluid/filter serviced.
I use an indy shop in the east bay, CA- great guys but I doubt they've seen many E63's. Thanks!
Visual cues: steering wheel and wheels.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I just changed the LSD fluid again at 84492 miles.
Instead of looking like metallic paint (the break in fluid at the first change), the fluid looked like caramel syrup. Note that the oil going in looks like your normal oil, like vegetable oil.
EDIT: I should note that the oil was clear even though well "browned". That tells me wear is good.
There was some buildup on the face of the drain plugs that came off easy, but I am sure it coats the casing. I think I will shorten my next interval to 60k.
By putting the oil in the oven at 150F made the oil flow much faster down the fill tube.
Also changed my engine oil today and got a sample to send for analysis. Since the AMG Academy was using 0W-40 in the SLS, that is what I use. Of course when there were those good sales I bought about 5 cases.
I will start a new thread on the oil analysis.
Time to do the test ride, I write this from an iPad sitting in the driveway.
Cheers!!
Jon
