Will 295's fit in the rear?

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up a set of 20" wheels for my E and I was wondering if a 295x25 on a 10.5" wide rim would fit without rubbing? Am I asking too much?

Some feedback please...

Stick with 285 IMO.

I run 295s on both my wheel sets and no rubbing at all, but mine are 18" rims.

You'll need to post offsets too. I am also assuming you are talking about the rear.

I have 295/30/19 on a 9.5 wide rim. offset is 35et

my overall diameter is 660mm according to bigwheels.net

your 295/25/20 o.d. is 656mm...so if you stay with a 9.5 wide rim it will not rub.

wider rims would looking better...will stretch the tire out a bit, which is good.

I think jangy is running a 10 or 10.5 rim...not sure what his offset is.

295/35/18 tire is 664mm in o.d.

you are in the best shape of the three of us height-wise, but the offsets need to be just right.

Running 295/30/19 with no rubbing at all, but I had to switch tires from Michelin PS2 to Toyo T1R, because Michelins run wayyyyyyyyy to wide.

Your shouldn't have any problems

Im running the PS2's I agree... with an agressive "HRE" offset they will rub if the car is lowered... At stock ride height you should have no issues...

DKM Feb 22, 2008 11:31 AM

Hmm...interesting. So if the Michelins are a little wider then normal, what about comparing Pirelli to Michelins? The cars been lowered via Star diagnostic. Not much...but still a weee bit.

The 285s I want are back ordered. So I was figuring 295. Maybe I'll just wait.

Well if it rubs when lowered then it rubs. Saying it is fine when raised up to stock height just means it rubs less often. So hit a big bump on the 405 at 85 and you could cut a hole in a tire just as easily at stock height as lowered.

HRE loves to push the wheel all the way out towards the fender for looks. Bring it in and it should not rub at all. the 10.5 inch part is the only question as that is getting pretty large. It will not rub at a 9.5 or a 10 if you keep the off-set in the lower 40's.

Absolutely agreed.

10.5 has been done, even with 295s. It is possible BUT the offset is key. When you push the limit (without cutting/rolling/camber adjustments), the window for workable specs is small. Staying within a more "conservative" specs as proposed will keep you out of trouble.:D

With 10.5 in the rear its a really a aggressive fit. You should really use a 10... If you ask will it work yes it will... But the proper fit would be to use a 10 in the rear with a 285... if you put a 285 on a 10.5 the tire will stretch and fit on but will look funny...

well...from what i understand the offset is 36.8. Which is pretty agressive. Either way...its too late to do anything. I have the wheels sitting in my garage. So i"ll just wait for 285s to come off of back order.

Slow down. I'm running HREs with 295s and no rubbing at all. 10 inch rims with an offset of 40.

Wait, are you saying you are going to mount 20X10.5et37 with 285s and hope not to rub? Man, that will be close. An et of 37 on a ten inch rim is almost at the outer edge. I just don't see a 10.5 with et37 not rubbing. Only cool thing is you can likely shave a few mm off and make them right.

DKM Feb 22, 2008 09:59 PM

Thats pretty much what I'm saying. The wheels were made for a E AMG so they should be ok. I would think they would add the 1/2" to the inside of the wheel and not to the outside.

I have friends at a machine shop. Worst case scenario...

also...with the tire stretched out I would think it would clear better. I've never liked a square tire. I like the stretched look...
