2005 AMG E55
18", 19", or 20" Wheels, What do you have?

Looking to upgrade wheels on stock E55.

What is the ideal size?
Will I lose performance by going to a bigger wheel?
Will the quality of my ride decrease with a bigger wheel and thinner tires?

I want the look of bigger wheels but do not want to sacrifice the ride and performance.

Thanks in advance!

I'm still stock right now...I really love the way the stockers look even though I know they are heavy chrome shoes that should be replaced.

Can't seem to justify spending 5K+ for wheels when the stockers look so nice already. If I seriously tracked this car I would get a set of ultra light for the track, but I don't so the daily driver stockers look and feel nice.

Some of the lesser expensive wheels I am always concerned about quality of build. I have a pewter colored car and was seriously thinking about the gun metal finish of these wheels:

Anyone have any experience with Tork wheels or have opinions?

Probably 18 or 19's
Only if they are heavier or the rolling circumference (with tyre) increases.
Only marginally with 19's, probably with 20's.

Ideal size = 20s
yes you will loose performance, but will you notice it = No
the ride = I dont realy feel it but I have been on low pros my whole life.
not wanting to loose performance for looks is cool but you will be looking good more than you will use the cars performance!
I had 19s for performance. I hated it so much I didnt drive the car untill I got 20s back on it!

-ideal size depends on what you're trying to achieve.

-you absolutely will lose performance with most larger diameter wheels. it has more to do with the center of mass being further from the hub so it's possible to lose performance with a larger wheel even if the overall weight of the is less.

-you will absolutely give up ride quality. i notice a big enough difference with my 19's to know that i'd NEVER want 20's no matter how good they look.

i just put 20's on mine and they look hot.... but the beast feels a bit sluggish and brakes need to be applied a bit harder than stock. I almost want to put the stock wheels back on even to sacrifice the looks......

For me, personally I'm going to finish all my performance mods before I start dumping money into looks. For now I think my stokers look fine for the time being. When I do decide to go up I'm definitely going with 19's. Hands down - 20's look bad azz but here in the bay area the highways suck!

On an E class I'd personally go with 20's but 19's look fantastic. Either way you can't go wrong. Just don't go for cheap wheels because you will notice the hit in performance.

I'm not saying steer away from rep wheels, because some rep manufacturers make fantastic wheels, but stay away from wheels that are too heavy.

These DPE's would look sick with a BBk

For Pimpin it's 20's. Performance 18's. Obviously your perfect in between pimpin & performance is the 19 :-)

Have 19's can hardly tell a difference from the stock 18's.

I had 19 in SSR GT3 on my W210 E55 for this reason - very light. But they bend like butter! It was awful and I would never buy SSRs again. I have authentic Brabus monoblock VI wheels on my W211 now in 19 inch and have had them over a year now and NOT ONE BEND in the same roads that shred through the SSRs like butter. The brabus wheels are def worth the money and have proven to be quality wheels. I love the SSR GT3's but not practical here in Boston. In LA or warmer climates where the roads are better, I am sure they would be fine though. Just not made for Boston

Well said, Slammed on 19's FTW! IMO. If you like the dub magazine look then roll them dubz.

I have 20's on the CLS and I have had no issues with them.

If you go 20", stick with a custom forged wheel to keep the weight down.

Good luck with the search
