I'll be getting together with a buddy this Wednesday night so he can show off his new GT500 rag top and I just know we're going to run. At least I hope we are.

Does anybody have any experience against one of these? How fast are they?

His cars a stick so I feel pretty good about running from a dig but from a roll I'm not so sure.

My '06' E is stock.

Should be a good race, I'm pretty sure if he had a coupe he'd have a weight advantage but not so much with the vert. You should definitely film this.

If he is stock, it won't be much of a race...they put down around 420-440rwhp stock but have wheel-hop and traction problems. You should be able to put some good distance on him. If he has some mod's 3.73 gears, JLT CAI, tune and pulley (550rwhp)....it flips the other way.

I was under the impression that they still had live rear axles? Isn't that better for traction? Edumacate me pls.

I think my car is quicker but have never been in a GT500 or seen one run at the track. He's a old school muscle car guy, (as I am), but has not yet embraced or experienced the wonder's of AMG.

Just don't mash the peddle to the floor or you will really spin your tires. Check out the tagged thread above (one of the first thread posts on each page) on how to drag the 55 (I think Chicago X posted it).

The live rear axle is built to take abuse....SVT had major problems with the IRS half shafts snapping under duress on the prior Cobras. The problem with the GT500 is wheel hopping. The live rear needs additional support to keep planted (there are lower control arm mod kits to help). The performance mods mentioned previously really only help once the car has hooked up...kind of masking the traction problem by having the GT500 start motoring on its way to a 118-122 trap speed.

Knock yourself out...

Just do a quick check under the hood and see if he has an exposed conical air filter. Just the CAI and tune gets them to 500rwhp. From a roll that can be pretty lethal...

i've raced a few from a roll and at the track. from a roll he might have a chance to hang with you...depending on how well he can row through the gears or if he gets a good jump. from a dig, he's got no chance unless you screw up by turning esp off.

from a roll, it needs a jump and a really good driver...and while the gt500 might get the jump, most definitely don't have a good driver so you're likely right.

thanks about the duc. it's totally different now...new paint and powdercoat and modded up like crazy (yes i have a problem! ). and yes, i am a chiropractor.
