Video Documented Problem with '63

Video Documented Problem with '63
This was just prior to the 20K service.

I had a few times where the car would start and make the sound heard that increases with rpm. Also noticed that Costco 93 gas would create a pinging sound like predetination.

The next day after the video I took the car and it was not doing it (of course) and the dealer could not get it to repeat it (of course.) The only proof I have is the video which speaks for itself.

They reflashed the ecu/tcu and no more problems since, although they could not give me a definitive answer as to what was causing it.

Comments welcome!!

we faced a few times similar noise complaints on 63 engines.
the noises came from the tappets after replacing it was ok.
but i cant figure it out if it is the same noise on your car, the soundquality is not that good but as said, sounds similar.

Are you sure they only flashed the ECU and TCU? They would need a campaign to do that. You can't just get a clean slate for no reason. I'd get more details, since I remember a campaign out for this but it included some hardware changes, too.

I had same problem with E63 about three months ago.
The dealer had my car for a week but did not happen again.
I got my car back without any fixes. SA said that there might have been air in the lifters.

You can find my car' clip on youtube. Search for 6.2 AMG.
I could not link it to youtube somehow:nix:

No same problem with the car. He said that it might have to do with how the car is parked. (sloped drive way etc.)
Hope it will be okay.
Let us know what the dealer says about the the issue.

I'd be purposely vague with the dealer on where you get your gas, other than to say 93 octane. No need to give them ammunition. I use costco as well

Thanks for the input

I have since sold the car so there will be no further R&D on this matter for me. Was just curious if anyone else had seen this before. The dealer performed the service while I waited and it never did it again. The car was parked in a garage its whole life with me so not sure how valid the slope theory would be.

Thanks
