Fuel Leak not covered by Warranty?
 

Just got a call from my dealer saying that my cars alternator was replaced under warranty. (se post about electrical problems on 05 e55)

I mentioned a fuel odor coming from the rear of the car and they actually found a small leak on a gasket to a sending unit that leaks a bit. They said it is not covered by warranty!!! Anyone have similar experience? the service advisor said he tried three different ways to get it covered and could not. He also said he was very surprised it was not covered.

Anyone know if I have any recourse to a warranty rejection?

Heck, I am sure I can pop up the back seat and slap some kind of goo around the leak to fix it for a few dollars. Dealer wants me to pay $145 to have them fix it. I know I know, Not a huge cost, I am talking about principal here!

Has the dealer ruled out involvement in Service Campaign 2008020001 MAR08?

When exposed to high ambient temperatures in combination with frequent stop and go driving small cracks may develop over time in the fuel filter module assembly due to mechanical stress. Fuel evaporation through these cracks may lead to fuel smell and evaporative emissions standards may be exceeded. Dealers will check the assembly and install an improved fuel filter module assembly if necessary.

It should be covered! Are they kidding me...gaskets I assume are not part of wear and tear like brakes, oil etc...

+1...they are full of crap if they don't fix it under warranty.

I agree. This is the first repair under CPO extended warranty. The SM said he is very surprised it is not covered and called in about it.

It is not covered by MBCPO- ran into this over the summer time- gaskets/orings are not covered under MBCPO- the same on my BMW CPO too!:crazy:

OP, don't be too surprised. There are many things not covered under our CPO warranties (I have one too and was misinformed upon purchase about the comprehensiveness of the warranty).

Its a good warranty compared to other after market ones, but its not nearly as comprehensive as the standard warranty (I was told it was--its NOT).

Agreed. i think you could ask in a different way and get it covered. Although, brake pads can be a safety thing as well and they aren't covered....

I just had this issue 2 days ago. Luckily, my SA was nice enough to hook me up so that I only pay for the labor and MBNA paid for the parts (senders and seal). I'm pretty sure if you're SA wanted to, he can hook you up. BTW, my car is not under warranty. It has 79K miles on it. :-) I believe it was covered under the recall campaign for Fuel Filter Module but I'm not sure.

This is what my invoice said:

Cause: Found left and right fuel level sensors leaking fuel and intermittently not showing fuel level
47 Fuel tank and lines, fuel evaporation control systems.

Parts:
(2) 211-471-05-79 Seal (You can buy this online for $15 each. It will be $30 each at MB dealership)
(1) 211-470-17-94 Sender Unit (MSRP is $490 but you can find it online for ~ $441)
(1) 211-470-51-94 Sender (MSRP is $490; online ~$441)

Performed: Performed fuel system check for leaks. Found fuel leaking from both the left and right fuel level sensors. The fuel is pooling in the center of the sensors. Performed fuel tank, drain/refill. Replaced leaking fuel level sensors -both (sender units). Refilled the fuel and rechecked for leaks. No leaks found. 3.5 Hrs.

I got it warrenteed. Urge them to do it

If they replaced that gasket from the service campaign mentioned in post 2, which they should have, then the gasket is still under warranty.
