Offset Concerns on 20" wheels - Please reply asap

E55 AMG Wheel Fitment - Need Help asap

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all

I have been offered the Monarch 63rs wheels.

They measure

Fronts 20x9 (ET35)
Rears 20x10 (ET45)

Will they fit a W211 E55 with a drop of 1.5"-2.00" drop without any problems?

I need to let the guy know tomorrow so a quick response would be great.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The rears may be a hair too high. Be careful with wider tires; they will rub on the inside before the outside on that offset.

ooo

Jangy, I think your wrong on the 45 et. I thought the higher the offset the less aggresive the fitment.

I am thinking that the 45 offset is not aggresive enough- most e55 fitment wheels have offsets in the high 30's

Jangy is correct.

45 is about 10mm from optimal ~(35et). They would sit inward.

The rims that come from a CLS have offsets of ~25et, and as we have all seen, those tend to stick "out" more than ideal by 10mm.

Thansk psoas, jangy and drop997stop but I am still confused which isn't difficult somedays,

I have seen a set of similar/same wheels on an e55 w211 that have ET32 front and ET42Rear. http://mymbonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7&start=50

The wheels I am buying are ET35 front and ET45 Rear.

Does this mean that the will be further inside the arches and scrubb the insides or further outwards so the might catch on the arch edges/lips.

Please attempt to calarify as i am unsure.

A 10mm spacer would bring that to 35mm and ensure clearance on the inner well. The only way to confirm is to mount the wheel or find someone on the board with the exact same wheel. Doesnt Godfather have Monarchs???

My rears are ET44, and i used an H&R 10mm Spacer to bring them right to the fender, which i believe makes them an ET34.. No rubbing at all.. My fronts are also ET34

Guys, lovin the help..... its much appreciated for sure.

I think I have now got my head around this offset thing.

I initially thought that if the ET value increased there was going to be a higher likelyhood that the wheels would stick out from under the arch and cause rubbing on the arch edges/lips and that I would need to have the wheels machined to move them back under the arches.

It appears to make more sense from the help you guys have given and osidian05e55 comment confirmed that at worst a spacer could remedie any inner arch rubbing.

I will buy the wheels tomorrow and will invest in some suitable spacers.

As soon as they are on the car I will get some pictures posted.

Thanks again all. Regards. Mark

They have arrived !

they are super sexy

The offset on the rears is different to what I had expected.

The offset on the rears is ET38.

Do you think they will be OK?

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
When in doubt

Always check your measurements
http://www.1010tires.com/tech.asp
With the proper hub centric spacers those rims can be made to fit.
Your ride is going to suffer, you will need to watch out for every pot hole in the road, every stock E55 will wax you in the turns, your tires will be far to - negative in camber from the 1.5-2 inch drop so be prepared to buy new 20 inch tires frequently unless you budget now for the proper suspension parts to bring the alignment into spec for that drop.
First enjoy the new rims ,then you can address the other much more major issues.

Those 10's are going to be a tight fit,no matter what you do.

These are the same wheels that Godfather has on this site. If the offsets are standard (not custom) then im sure you will be fine since he has slammed his car. Do a search for his posts- most should be on page 1.

ohlord..

Do you think I will need spacers on the front or on the rear.

I think the standard offset on the rear is ET39 and I have ET38 so is that going to work without any spacers?

The standard offset on the front is ET30 and with the wheel I have being ET35 I think I may need 5mm hubcentric spacers / regular spacers.

Any ideas?

dude people have answered you many times and you keep asking the same questions

"recommended" offsets for the rear are ET35 when running THAT size in particular, offsets vary depending on the size of the wheels ... I dont think you would have any trouble running them at ET38 ...

Got em on my 55, 2 inch drop, everything fit fine. I did put a 3mm spacer on the rear because the caliper clearance was like 1mm.

I've been runing the same wheels on my 55 for over a month, no spacers, no problem.

The clearance on my rear calipers is 0.6mm....the calipers don't move, so they will never touch.

Rather too much offset + spacers than too little offset and rubbing on fender...

Too much offset can be fixed too little can't.

OK. Many think I'm wrong and they are probably right. I hate 20s and spacers so my opinion on this thread is worthless anyway...
