Thoughts on a CL65....

Hey guys, just have a few questions for you. I know that most here have had (or even do have) multiple AMGs. I will have the opportunity to pick up a off lease CL65 in the next few months. Was at the dealer 2 days ago and he has a customer that typically babies his cars and upgrades every 2 years. This guy evidently has an S63, a CL65 and an SL63. Uses them for fun and daily transport. Anyway, with the finance offers and great APR's I was thinking of picking up his used CL65 if it truly is in great shape. The problem is that there is virtually no personal info on the CL65 on the web. There are so few that even youtube doesn't have many videos. Long and short, would this be a good pickup, a reliable car, a good stablemate to my E63? Let me know, thanks. Of course I would have it certified to extend the warranty. Besides, someone else has already taken the brunt of the AMG depreciation (it's an '07).

My only criticism of the W216 CL65 is the weight. MB added literally 250lbs (nearly 4,900lbs) to an already heavy coupe. The new CL has some advancements in technology over the old model and "fresher" styling, so it is a trade-off.

Or you go stage 4 or higher

I had both the E55 and W215 CL65 at the same time. After a few days of driving one, I missed the other but I never favored one more than the other. But now having owned 3 other beasts in their own right after dumping both my AMG's, (997TT, GTR, and M6) I have to honestly say I miss the E55 more. The driveability piece plays a huge factor with me now. The looks of the W215 still capture my eye to this day though...

Thanks for the replies. I love the look of the CL65 and am excited to own one. We'll see how it plays out. Will keep the E63 as daily transport and use the CL65 for trips, cruising, dinner dates with the wife etc. Have had such a great experience with my first AMG that I am thrilled to get another. Planning to mod heavily as it will be my garage queen and intermittent cruiser. Anyone know the largest rear wheels it can accomodate? 275/35 just won't cut it!!!!!

Thanks for the pic and quick info. It will actually be the new body style as he got it in '07 but it is technically an '08. Wonder if the same tire sizes will apply. Will wait till it is in hand before I go wild and crazy. So excited . Never driven a 65 but have driven 63's (including Black, mine, S and E55's). Loved 'em all. Can't frickin' wait.

Oh sorry about that, one thing I know about on the W215 CL65 is that the spindle sticks out more than any other Benz limiting the lip size for aggressive offsets. What that means for the W216?? IDK for sure.

Why, not everyone feels the same about the car... personally I liked mine alot but loved would be tougher to say during my 15 months of ownership. I got a slower straight line car in my M6 and have had that even longer and honestly have enjoyed it more. I may be going against the grain here but the CL was not the driver that I ultimately wanted. Fast, torquey, and stylish it was, soft, numb, detached, it was too. My opinions so dont come and shoot me (Tom and Jody)

I guess I'm getting old now . Smooth, comfy, stylish is actually what I like as long as its wicked fast.

I agree it's probably not the driver, but it looks mucho caliente! With the ***** to back it up

Dont get me wrong, the CL was an amazing piece of machinery having that awesome V12TT engine. It was more of a chassis, brake, and steering thing for me. Maybe I need to dump the M6 and get an SL65??

Picking up a 08 Mystic White CL65 Thursday. Hopefully I'll noticed the difference stepping up from the CLS55. It will be nice to have both options in the garage!

I want the SL65. I wouldn't mind picking one up in a few years and do the 09 front end conversion . That is going to be the best bargain with V12TT power. You should do it first!

Houtxcls55: Congrats, post some pics when you get the gorgeous machine!

Sad thing is I know exactly how you feel and I am not old at all!!!! M3, M5, Porsche 911s are all great but nothing does it for me like cruisin' comfortably while haulin' assssssss!!! The noise, the rattles, the wind noise and loud exhaust simply irritate me after a period of time. I know, I suck. That is why I have moved to Merc and have loved it so far. co-worker just got a 911s that I drove with the PDK and no torque, rough ride and rattles in a car with less that 100 miles?!!!!!! Ridiculous........ Just my opinion, I'm just old fashioned I guess.
