Tesla IS fast
 

Yesterday I was picking my son from his volunteer work place near the Googleplex. We stopped at a light next to a dark blue Tesla Roaster with 2 kids (young men) in it... must be Googlers. As I was checking the car over, the light turned green and they jumped on it. Several things happened next:

I hadn't thought that they would jump, and was too busy checking the car out, so I was slow to react...

I was thinking that I shouldn't street race with my 16 year old son (with a learner permit) next to me and set some really BAD examples.

I couldn't help myself, so I stomped on the gas...


...and went nowhere. :eek:

Lots of wheelspin, the dreaded orange triangle stayed lit solid and we went nowhere fast. My tires are almost completely bald, but I knew that.

The Tesla was gone. Fast. It was as quick if not a little quicker than my car. Especially it's tiny so it looked like a fleeting bug.

I need new tires.

Tesla is very quick from 0-60 but after 60 you should catch it easy.
Its vey light vehicle compare to our car. And remember, our car is much safer and solide car in high speed.

is the 0-60 like 3.9 and the top speed it 109mph?

i heard if you shoot it with one of these, you'll have the upper hand.

Very fast 0-60, 0-100 is 11 seconds. Like another member said, after 60 you'll start reeling in.

Electric Motors have instantaneous torque. I cant tell you how quick my Hybrid Camry can get 0-40, but it is much faster than just regular I4 Camrys.

Challenge him to a 100 mile endurance race. You can stop a take a nap when his battery dies.

uh, you have got to be kidding me... I had a Camry Hybrid loaner from BH Mercedes for a couple days and that car was terrible performance wise. hell, it didn't even get better gas mileage than an S/C'd I4. I would have picked the V6 version Camry over the overpriced hybrid any day...

If 0-100 is 11s, you'll have a hard time reeling in...ours are 9.5 on a good day

At about 55-60 miles. A Prius could beat this car in an endurance race.

If you're lightly modded you'll take him from a dig. Even the fastest stock Teslas only run high 12's - 13's and trap well under 110mph.

What was the temp? In the winter they do get a little sluggish, i only manage around 27-29 mpg in the winter and 31-35 in the summer.

Of course the performance isnt up to par with the benzs, but compared to the 97 camry I4 i had before, this thing can move under 50 mph.

sorry man, you shouldn't be comparing Camry's here. a Camry Hybrid is nowhere close to a Tesla or E55. I hope you're not one of those douchebags that actually thinks that their Camry is a sports car and drives on the freeway weaving in and out and tailgating people.

I never said a CH is as fast as a E55 or Camry...

I am telling you a fact from a car I own and other vehicles i have owned and driven that have more power than my CH.

Go read up on electric motors and their power output, maybe then you will understand why i say from 0-50, hybrid cars usually come out the hole much quicker.

I do know about electric motors and their power output. however, I have real world experience that tells me that hybrid cars aren't performers as much as their owners would like to think they are.

nlpamg - you're right... but it's coming. 100% Torque at any speed from an electric motor. In the UK back in the day we used to have electric milk-floats to deliver the milk - it's the only drive-train that'll do a steep hill start on a full load time and time again.

Batteries, as ever, are the weakest link. Those Teslas weigh a lot more than the Lotus Elise's that they're based on. Makes cornering a little dicey! Plus, like bfnnrgn says, they out of juice real quick. It's OK to say 95% of journeys are less than 35 miles; nobody's going to go for these things unless you can do more than 200 when you want to. Or 600, like my CLK. Plus you gotta be able to fill up in less than 5 minutes, not 5 hours! :)

But it's coming, I tell ya...

I drove in this car and it isn't as fast as originally spec'd. It certainly didn't feel as fast as a 55 off the line.

Exactly, I have experience with BOTH, I am not acting like i know my car is a performer, i have already told you before, unless you are thick, that they are NOT performers. The telsa can be in short burst and not for all day long, b/c their electric motor is of course a lot more powerful than mine.

Once they build a distribution network where one can swap out batteries (at gas stations, starbucks, 7/11s,....?????) then the car will be feasible. I haven't read anything in detail how Tesla is going to run their extra capacity 300 mile battery program, but it will be interesting how many takers there are for the new S model. I like what I see: low center of gravity, more interior and storage space since there is no motor and gas tank and it would cost roughly $5 - $10 per charge - not bad. I just wonder how much an extra battery pack will cost when you need a new one.
