Clean exhaust tips the EZ way
For the past 4 years I've struggled to find an easy way to clean the exhaust tips on my E55, and last week used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I really couldn't believe how quickly it removed all of the soot and they look like new again. It probably took less than 5 minutes to hit all four tips.

I mirror polish stainless steel all the time and it's a beast to do. You can't mess it up with micro abrasives.

The magic eraser is pretty safe. There were rumors years ago that it contained formaldehyde. They were proven to be false.
However, be careful with those things, they are micro abrasive and will scratch anything that is highly polished. They do get crayon off walls, but I wouldn't recommend them for polishing your 24" bling bling spinners.

The reason that they work so well is that they are basically just a sponge made completely of mirco-abrasives. I've been using these Erasers to do cleanup on my boat for a couple of years now with no downside observed to date. I use them on stainless, polished aluminum, and fiberglass with no visible changes in appearance.

That's the best method that I had previously found, but the results with the eraser seem to be better and come with a significant time savings.

I just have a habit of using a damp cloth to wipe down my rims and the inside/outside of the exhaust tips every couple of days so I hardly get those soot particles stuck on the exhaust tips.

Wasn't there a post about cleaning tips just a month ago?
fwiw, I use Menzerna metal polish (made in Germany and used by Daimler AG)
The stuff is great. http://www.bikedepot.net/menzerna-bi...ing-cream.html
Once you get them clean, they'll stay pretty clean with just an application once a month or so. Any stubborn inside carbon, just take some fine #0000 steel wool to it. Then after that you won't need any kind of abrasive.

Someone in another thread told me those tips are polished stainless steel. (I find that hard to believe as they look like chrome to me but...) If that's the case, they can take it.

Just use "Wheel Wax" on your tips. Cleans and protects.
It will be hard to see at first or even after one year but eventually the abrasives mentioned above will wear off the shine on your tips. What does water do to rocks after a period of time?

After millions of years?!? Lmao.. Yes.. If you use the magic eraser every day for a few years you MIGHT start seeing some dulling... But I don't even think then you'd notice.. You'd do more damage rubbing notebook paper on them..
