What's the highest miles E55?

Just wondering how reliable an E55 AMG can be? Mine is an '04 and it's right at 82K miles.

Mikey's car is one of the most impressive E55s out there..... it is very high mileage yet puts down consistently more power than almost any other E55 in its class.

wow that is impressive!

:yLoose is fast. Cars that are fully broken in tend to be must faster and more powerful than new, tight cars. It's interesting to see the follow up test numbers when C&D or Road&Track do long-term wrap-ups. Their test cars are almost ALWAYS faster at 40K than when new. I think they just get faster as the engine loosens up (not losing compression).

120K mi for a MBZ shouldn't be an issue if you're 1/2 decent with maintenance.

Great to see so many with 100K+ mileage...I plan to put that and then some on mine. :naughty:

Any trick to keep the E55 reliable? Because I do plan to keep this car for a long time. Also, anyone here do their own maintenance?

as far as tunes go, she's been kleemann for most of her life and i would highly recommend them. my only wish and the reason i went with someone else is that i wanted a custom tune which they don't do. i'm now with renntech and their tune is absolutely amazing!!!

parts are mostly custom from chris at floored fab and renntech has finished her off with their awesome tuning, rat multiple tuning device, airbox, and a couple other things. ;)

yes, besides proper maintenance...drive your 55 like it was meant to be driven!!!

Thericker Sep 6, 2009 03:44 PM

Interested? Have you ever done Tranny flush? When recently speaking w/MB shop foreman, he told me he has NEVER seen a tranny fail on a 600/65 5 speed (though MB states NO maintenance/flush till 100k I'm @ 48k)

Def going w/Kleemann ECU/TCU!:)

chiromikey Sep 6, 2009 03:53 PM

even though mb said i didn't need a trans flush, i did a flush and replaced the filter around 65k. just replaced half the fluid, then again around 115k.

How do you that? Do you need any kind of special tools? Thanks

Bought mine 12/07 with 110,000 miles after test drive proved the car worthy. Just went over 133,000 miles the other day, and have never had any mechanical issues other than routine maintenance.
However, it does need new CATS. I am getting a check engine light as a result...the weird thing is when I passed the emissions testing when I got new tags recently. The light goes on and off from time to time, so I ran over to the testing center when the light was off and they passed me. That was a relief - otherwise it would have been about 3K to install the new cats.
I am considering whether it's worth it to put them in...in two years I'll need emissions testing again for renewal of tags. Maybe I'll just sell the car...or maybe have some fun w/it and do the CAT/exhaust modification that everyone raves about...:nix:
