OT Best used SPORT SUV?

Hey guys, what do you think would be the best sport suv for my girlfriend. She has a newer V8 4-runner sport and it's time to move on. Porsche? Range? X5? X6? ML63 ;) JK! Let me know! Thanks!

chiromikey 10-14-2009 02:54 AM

i just picked up a range rover sport supercharged and love it so far but i chose it for it's towing capacity and off road capabilities. my recommendations for a woman that doesn't have any intentions of towing or going off road...i'd say x5 for sure. they're great looking and offer very good handling (among suv's).

G55...

Twinreds 10-14-2009 08:40 AM

VW Touareg V10 diesel: it has something like 540 pounds of torque

... and HP around the mid 300's.
That's both a hauler and a runner

I vote Porsche Cayenee turbo for the sport suv.. please, don't buy ml63

Cylinder Head 10-14-2009 11:34 AM

X5 4.8 or the Cayenne Turbo, hands down. Just ask the ML63 guys how reliable their cars have been.

Nobody mentioned Grand Cherokee SRT8. Most bang for the buck IMHO.:nix:

Not one single issue.
Never been at the dealer except for when I bought it and for regular scheduled maintenance.

i was intent on finding a v10 touareg (which is hard to do) until i talked to 3 different owners who all said they were electrical nightmares. and to top it off, i golfed with the owner of a vw dealership who said they were garbage!

not sure about that Mikey, my buddy is on his 2nd Touareg now, he sold his after 210k(!) miles and it ran like a champ and took him all around the country without a single issue. Touareg is not a sport SUV, but to drive around with TDI engine is fun and pretty much reliable.

I'm suprise that no-one have metion the Lexus LX470. That is a really reliable vehicle. It's the only one that tough enough to drive in Antatica.

zxlr88 10-14-2009 05:14 PM

I have a LX470. I love it. The wife drives the kids around in it. Never any issues. Never.

The jeep SRT-8 is nice inside and out my brother had one for a little while they are quick but it will need all three option packages , the newer body style Range Rovers (03 and newer) are very nice my sister just picked one up for 21k . Cayenne Turbos are a steal for the money , they can be had in the high 20's. My sister other sister and mom both have 2004 escalades one with 150k miles and the other with 90k miles both bought new and neither have ever been in the shop or broken down ( knock on wood)

Agree. I had a Phaeton, which has a similar electric platform. They all had a few occasional glitches (none of which put the car out of comission), but by far, you could not reproduce the amount of amenities and gadgets that you get on one of these "high end" VW's on any luxury brand for less than a 100K, and believe me they are fast and with lots of power (personal experience). It might not be a Cayenne Turbo, but do you really care about racing anything on one of these behemoths?

Chiro - I am about to lease a 2010 RR Sport SC. Do you love it?

I can't comment on them personally but when the owner of a dealership says they're in the shop far more than any other vehicle he sells, I gotta pay attention...

that's a tough question for me...not because it isn't a great vehicle, but because I'm just not an suv guy and don't think I could "love" any suv. I bought this as a tool more than anything else because in street trim it's more off road capable than most anything else, it has a higher tow rating than any other midsized suv (only matched by the touareg), yet still has the level of quality interior that is a must for me. as a bonus, it's one of the best looking sport suvs around. this thing is a tank weighing more than any other midsized and many full sized suvs so don't even consider one without the s/c package!

so luv it....nah. extremely happy, yes!

Cool. I have had a truck as a second vehicle for a few years, and since I drove them much more than the benz, I was actually more comfortable with the high seating position. Can't wait to get it.

I just bought the missus a new black on black TT 4.2 TDI Q7. Below wheels on order and lowering links. 0-100 in 6 seconds aint bad for a big economical 7 seater....got my vote over the Petrol guzzling Cayenne. Plus I needed the extra row of seats in the back.
