Did you see it, drive it, run carfax, look at previous maintenance? 17K seems like a great deal, but if it is going to cost you another 10K to keep it on the road, the logic is twisted...

Car looks beautiful but has TMM syndrome (Too Many Miles). Just be prepared to spend some serious coins to keep her going, good luck. If you can do some of the work yourself then, well, you should come out on top. All will be forgotten when you stomp on the accelerator. It's like the surfers that sit around waiting for the next good wave to ride, they are not worried about much of anything, so enjoy!

Where are you located? Did you look at it? A lot of SoCal AMG people here, one of us could have looked at it for you.

17k is a good price, but the car's a 2003 with lotsa miles.

Also it got 12k put on it since March of this year by the last owner who has only had it since then.

That seller's description was sorta lame; and what's with the non-AMG wheels and dings in the hood? The back seat looks like somebody drove around a potted plant sitting on it?

Anyway, good luck and hope it works out well.

The potted plant syndrome is most likely the result of a baby seat. Those marks are my biggest fear as I have one on the way. A baby that is.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Yeah, I can't do the work myself, but I have a local Dallas mechanic that is inexpensive and a master Mercedes guy.
Nope, I didn't drive it, I know, shocking, but my last three cars were buy and ships.
Having a forum member check it out would have been nice, but didn't have the time, this was a re-listing of the car, last auction for it ended at $19,600 but two buyers couldn't pay, so when I saw it going so cheaply I couldn't resist.

I am comfortable with the risk involved, anything major that costs more than $1,000 to fix is covered by Ebay's policy, I am a lawyer and the seller's description of excellent outside and in is part of the "contract", and frankly even with too many mile syndrome, you can't exactly go on autotrader and find any E55 for less than $20,000 unless they are salvaged.

My biggest worry, the seller won't do the deal, believe it or not $17,100 is so low it reaches comparables to many E500's for sale at dealers.

82K on a 7 year old car? That wouldn't bother me a bit. I think you got a great deal on a nice looking car.

P.S. Car seats fit fine. I have one in the back of mine

+1 These cars are bullet proof! It is all the extra crap that breaks (air seats, dynamic seats, trunk closer, keyless go, command). Those wheels look like **** but other then that looks real good!

Haha, don't mind you sharing your opinion on the wheels, but I like them, they are similar to the OEM 19 inch wheels I had on my 2000 330c beemer.

Since you're going to be buying a car seat, go get yourself a Recaro Young Sport child seat. They fit perfectly in the back of the car & look good too. I have 2 other kid seats that leave wicked marks in the leather. This one doesn't.

He states the wheels are from a 2009 E-class but they sure look IDENTICAL to the factory wheels on the 2003 SL55's....

I think they look more like they came off his 2000 330c BM like he said. just not my taste I guess. Good buy either way!

man, these cars have gone down the tank..anyway, gotta be the best bang for your buck car. The fatal flaw of the E55 is the electrical system, otherwise we will see these running over 200k miles, very very strong motors and trans, its brakes that cost a lot!

On the surface, you did great. Make sure you have the trans serviced when you get it, check the ic pump, and make sure you don't have the Valeo radiator. Good luck.

Miles wouldn't bother me a bit but those wheels would (no offense). Look like Volvo wheels.

Just an update, seller is playing possum with me, won't answer emails or phone calls, the dream may be dead ugh! I am a lawyer, think I should go after him hehe? I could file in Texas for venue and make him answer all the way from California.

Shouldn't list a car for no reserve if you can't handle the outcome.
