09 e63 CEL, at the dealer now

yesterday I was driving home and the car just started stuttering and had a hard time maintaining idle. I looked down and the check engine light was on. I had to really give the pedal to get it across the street.
I Drove in a parking lot and got it towed.
It felt like it was running on 3 or 4 cly. But didn't feel like a clogged CAT.
I was thinking MAF, coil packs, briefly thought about bad gas, but I drove it for 4 days on the same gas before this happened.
Car has 1400 miles on it a the moment. The only thing different is the temps have gotten lower down here in the last two months.

Just thought I'd put that out there, no big deal I guess. I'll find out Monday probably.
I was thinking this has happened to someone else, or if it happens to someone in the future.
I'll post the outcome.

went up there to look, camshaft adjuster I'm told. I was running on 4 cly. Should be back together wednesday.
I'll post up the parts replaced when I get it back.
This seems messed up. Stranded on the side of the road twice in less than 6 months and 1400 miles.
I'm trying to look on the bright side though

I read your headline and thought that there was some kind of a "CEL" version of the E63 making its premiere at the dealer. Mercedes has used CL and CE as part of names for their cars.

To me, the phrase "Check Engine Light" has not reached the point of being an acronym. The way have written your title is confusing. Just my $.02

so tell me what merc uses for the check engine light? SES? I really don't know, so I'm asking.
cel was always the generic check engine for P car and bmw boards.

CEL has been used as an acronym for "check engine light" for years and is understood by most auto enthusiasts at a glance.

Jbrinkley, returning to topic, I'd chance my arm to say you got unlucky. It could be something as simple as a kink in one of the hoses leading to the emissions system. Good luck and, provided your dealer's competent, you should enjoy better luck in the future as the 08/09 E63 with its relatively simplistic powertrain is one of the most reliable high-powered vehicles on the market.

Yeah, CEL is a pretty well understood acronym. No confusion there.

As Carl says, these cars are pretty strong. No doubt this is an anomaly and you can feel comfortable that you'll get a long life out of it. Good luck getting it resolved quickly and relatively painless.

fwiw, I now have 9k on mine with no hiccups. But still expect the usual electronic glitches and airmatic leaks eventually.

Any halfway auto enthusiast knows automatically that CEL means check engine light. It's been used for years, anyhow- one more time and your car is a lemon

There seems to be a lot of posts about problems with the new MB's as of late. In particular the E class line. Hmmm..interesting and not in a good way.

+3 on the CEL, well known acronym.

Do you mean new as in W212? The OP has the last of the W211. The drive train is the same as the C63 and it seems to be pretty solid. All I've read is oil consumption and valve train ticking on a few Cs and Es. Otherwise, just the usual electronics stuff (keyless go, parktronic, etc..) and airmatic on both E55s and 63s. Most '06 to '09 Es (and non AMGs) have been relatively strong.

Not just the W212's but there have been several posts lately about those as well having multiple problems with just a few thousand miles on them. Search the forum, one guy noted his car had to be towed three times in less than 6 months of ownership. I have been hearing about other cases as well outside of this forum also btw.

Not trying to split hairs on the discussion, but that list of "electrical issues" are still problems correct? Airmatic failures are problems as well.

I am not knocking MB's, hell I have 3. It is what it is though, there will be some lemons.

Thing is- people don't come here to report positive experiences in general. So the 2 out of however many here that have w212's is really visible, even thou it's nothing.

I hope this is the last of any issues, we'll see..

three times towed makes it a lemon?
I thought same issue for repair three times.
Or a certain number of days in the shop.
Just wondering, I love the car and wouldn't want it bought back,, at the moment.

SA called and told me tomorrow evening.
I've been looking for some good exploded views of the 6.3

thanks guys

Oh- I figured the three times it was towed/repaired was for the same reason. State laws differ.

It's all good, I looked up the stuff for louisiana.
30 days at dealer within a year from delivery or 3 times same repair, something like that.

Funny thing is, now that a chain cover has been off it seems like the door is open now.
How much does this 20 year old tech care about putting it back together?
flipping irritating

156-050-28-47 exhaust cam adjuster (right), and a couple seals it looks like.
there wasn't anyone around to talk about it when I picked it up. Drove it last night for a while, everything seems fine.

we'll see
