Best shop on west coast to paint calipers?

Big thanks to Daminchi for a full set of nearly new e63 brakes and front spindles

I would like to get my calipers painted. After some research I emailed and called Harbour Motorsports (HMS) in Westminster, CA over the past two days and never heard back.

Can anyone here recommend a shop on the West Coast that will do a "proper" job on my calipers??? If you've got pics post'em up
TIA

Except that he said they never replied back....

Although it's possible that they are taking some days off for the holidays(?)

I use Sonic Motorsports - Mountain View, CA. Ask for Darwin. He's the owner. I've had my calipers painted twice.

Old caliper color (Porsche Lapis Metallic Blue):

New caliper color:

Have you ocnsidered getting them powdercoated as opposed to painted? The finish is more durable. Just a suggestion

HMS rocks for painted ones- try Ed at 714 379 7770-- off Beach Blvd, they painted 3 of my cars brakes (211 E55, CL 65, and M6)

Powdercoated, I would suggest Mike at Stuttgart Performance in Costa Mesa 714 432 8815. They PC'd my GTR brakes. PC'ing takes more time and is more expensive of course.

Thanks Vic. HMS is def the place for painting, they did my e55, too. But paint chips/scratches too easily so I'm thinking powdercoating would be more durable/resistant to this. Is this in fact true?

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
Powercoating is more chip resistant, but a 'quality' paint job on the calipers will also hold up well. Many shops just slap paint on the caliper and paint everything in site. It takes a good solid 30 minutes at the minimum per caliper for prep time alone on the car.

The powedercoating process my GTR went thru was outstanding.

1. Completely remove and drain calipers
2. Resurfaced the calipers (The GTR ones were a little off)
3. Powdercoat and buff
4. Apply OEM Brembo logo
5. Urethane applied to protect logo
6. Polished
7. Reapplied

The powdercoat process took two days cause they wanted to get the calipers color as smooth as possible so it took several applications.

And yes, PC is a much more durable application than paint even with several layers of clear coating.

Most shops paint the calipers while on the car. HMS can do both ways- I had them remove the calipers and that will cost more due to labor.

Paint or PC?

For PC I would just recommend that you come to down to Costa Mesa and drop the car off at Stuttgart. Its not too far from BH.

Good call, thx Vic. I want to have them painted the same color silver that's on my BS. Right now they look pretty bad and the bolts are all rusted out.

I was just quoted $800 from SonicMS..... I'm not sure what the going price is but it sounded like he just threw a high figure out there. One thing I don't like about SonicMS is that they seem to have different prices for different people. This is now twice that I have been quoted a higher price than someone else.

Ed, the next time I'm in LA I'll be coming to ya buddy. How long would you need my car?

LMAO....that was for paint. Total bs and for that reason I'll never go to SonicMS. I would much rather wait until I travel down south to have HMS do the work.

You can paint them yourself for probably <50$ if you just take your time, clean/prep, and have some patience.

It seems as though HMS is impossible to get a hold of. I e-mailed three times and called probably 100 times without an answer. I want to get my three brake lights smoked but cannot get anyone to talk to?

800 for paint is waaaaaaaaaay too much even if they are taking off the calipers, draining, and having a shop do it. I sent you a PM about the PC but your price should be better than this number for sure.

Don't bother emailing. Calling is often fruitless, too, b/c everyone's usually busy working (from my experience). If I need something done I've found its easiest to go in person (although it looks like this isn't an option for you).
