CL 65 or a E63 and GTR??????????
A friend of mine has a dilemma. First off - truly is a friend (not Freudian for me); second posting this for real opinions because I love shopping for cars and when somebody close asks my opinion I really want to give them a good informed one. Looking for what you car guys would do in this situation.
You have a great year; you set your kids' entire education up; set your own retirement up, still have 100,000 to 150,000 for a new car(s). He's looking at late model CL 600's and 65's, Bentley convertibles or possibly an Aston Martin. I suggested an E63 AND a GT-R (or other comparable 2 door)(not one or the other but both). What would you do or suggest? (currently has a 210 e55 that he's had for over 8 years and has done vettes etc). Any input would be greatly appreciated. |
When you say late model I'm assuming you mean 07+
If you friend has say 100k I'd say newer E55 plus GTR but if your friend has 150k why not an E55 and a Gallardo/R8...:zoom: |

I love my cl55 and the 65 is still in a whole different league. But a to have 2 very nice rare fast cars I would think is better. The gtr is one of my favorite cars and are extremely rare as well. I would prob do one of two things keep the e55 and get something insane like a lambo ferrari gt3 r8 something of that caliber or if he is set on the getting rid of the e55 thats not a bad combination to have right there either. maybe even have an suv if he doesnt have one already and a gtr or something.

Great suggestions so far!!!!! Thank you very much! He has a Suburban that he uses as a beater for the kids (doesn't care what happens to it and the kids can spill anything and he doesn't get mad). He does a lot of road work (DC to Philly/ NY) so that was my thinking behind the E and the two door would be for play. He's definitely a car guy but it's amazing how twisted you can get when all of the sudden the doors to promise land open up:D. Also an avid golfer so I was thinking the two door would have to swing a bag and clubs.
Keep em coming - I didn't even think about the R8 - the only thing that worries me (I don't know if it would worry him) is the maintenance on the Italians:nix: |
Since the guy has done Vette's...how about a 2009/2010 CTS-V and a GT-R. Although, I personally would go with a used 2007 997TT over the GT-R. Don't get me wrong, the GT-R is a great car...I am just not in love with the looks and the transaxle has been known to be a bit weak.

fwiw, I split my money between two cars instead of just one. A 993 and an E63. I think you get the best of both worlds. A fun-to-drive sports car for the back roads and an autobahn daily driver. |
RARE= Porsche 996 turbo Cabs in 05 less than 500 were made.

Nice cars for sure - threw it out there but he said he would stick with a MB before switching.
They are pretty! After the thread about the 993tt I was going to suggest that. I find it interesting that you being an owner of a GTR would suggest 911TT - any reason why?? I have the GTR to fulfill my speed needs. I'm looking at a Bentley now to fulfill my daily driver, yet still fast and luxurious needs. |
My plan as of right now is to keep my E55, and in 3 years get something that is PURELY for fun. My list is as follows:
-Ariel Atom -996TT -993TT -SLK55 (Weld the roof shut, take out the motor for the electric top, strap on an AMG supercharger and improve the suspension, maybe swap the tranny with an AMG manual) My top 2 picks are either the Atom or the SLK55. Personally I would stay the F away from Aston Martins. They're nice, but that's about it, and way too overpriced. (All cars would be used of course) |
Well, since I have both an E55 (wagon) and a 996TT cab, I can honestly say it is a great combo. If he has the money, go 997, but I didn't want to have that much in the two (aging) cars.
It is an amazing combo. |
SAVE UP A LIL MORE FOR A
