I didn't expect this: IS-F beats E63

I didn't expect this.

While in Mexico I was headed south on W Canyon from S Ana Canyon in the number three lane and an IS-F is behind me. He goes to the middle lane and passes me like normal so I decided to see if he would play so I went behind him.

As soon as all the traffic disappeared he floors it and so did I. He stayed ahead of me the whole time  I was not gaining nor losing. I let off as the speeds got pretty high because those long sweeping curves seemed like very short left-right-left curves at the speeds we were going. The W211 really can't keep up in a situation like that.

We eventually get to the top of the hill and we chat a little bit. He said the only mod was a remapped ECU. So we decided to go downhill, turn around and go back up.

We start from a 10mph roll and he does the three honks. He gets the jump as my tires spin a little and is quickly a car length and a half ahead and we stay that way all the way up the hill (of course I let off as speeds were too much for the curves). I don't remember how fast we were going as I was concentrating on the curves but I believe the distance was a little short of a 1/4 mile.

The dude is really cool and we gave each other the thumbs up as we departed.

I've got to say I am surprised my E63 did not real him in since the 6.2 is putting down more HP to the wheels than the IS-F does at the crank. I've also beat down SRT8s of all types.

Maybe it's my 20 inch rims but they have the same outside diameter as stock so I'm :nix:

Also, the transmission was in sport mode so it shifted by itself which really isn't much of a detriment.

they have a 7 speed. Its all about the gearing.

so does the E63.

Pretty impressive for the IS I guess. You have a 212 or 211?

Are you implying that your w211 is faster?

Oops, I mistakenly put W212. It should be W211. I went ahead and edited my post.

actually i think the IS-F has an 8 speed auto

NORCAL///AMG Mar 10, 2010 07:44 PM

The two cars are pretty close in 0-60 times so it is not unheard of. A simple 1/10 sec delay is all it takes. More importantly...seems like you made a friend though :y

CharlyE500 Mar 10, 2010 07:48 PM

I am also kinda surprised. I thought C63 is faster than ISF and E63 is a bit faster than C63
E63> C63 > ISF/M3
I guess the E63 is just too heavy compare to the ISF, they might weight extra 600Lbs than E63

Sorry I mean 63 might weight extra 600 Lbs...

I've seen a couple of IS-Fs at a recent drag event and they all ran between 12.9 and 13.3 stock while my E63 was hitting 12.3 to 12.4 on that same day. Also, now my car is down to 12.1 to 12.2 range. I raced one some time ago and it was not even close

The IS-Fs are great cars, but the outcome you described is very strange.... either he had more mods or your car was not running optimally.......... or the IS-F I ran was not running optimally :nix:.

infantry Mar 10, 2010 08:01 PM

um, i think its the dudes tune then.. im sure you can pump some horses out of that stupid thing. i dunno i really don't like the IS's

infantry Mar 10, 2010 08:03 PM

did you forget to turn on the flux capacitor?

yooker Mar 10, 2010 08:41 PM

The 20inch wheels are going to be very very heavy, also the added rotational mass isn't going to help.

DAGREEKNYC Mar 10, 2010 08:44 PM

Did u use the paddles like a nubie ???? this will do it too :)

Jakpro1 Mar 10, 2010 08:55 PM

I toasted an ISF last year with dealer plates and I gotta admit it was pretty impressive. Walked him but it was a slower walk right up to 130 or so.

Stock E55, I woulda got killed.

Yuille36 Mar 10, 2010 08:57 PM

That's a big negative, the IS-F has a 8 speed tranny, not a 7 speed.

kevinpuri Mar 10, 2010 09:08 PM

Maybe the 8 speed trans got you? It lockups up in all gears except first when in manual mode eliminates any power loss from torque converter from 2nd through 8th gear.

Does your trans do the same?

At least the guy was cool

Lexus' website states a 13 second 1/4 mile. Plenty of IS-F drivers and magazines have backed up that number with similar times. The E should have had the edge unless the IS-F tune / E63 20" rims made a difference. However the outcome between two cars that are a few tenths apart in the 1/4 can easily come down to drivers' skills or the speed at which you start racing. Nice kill for the Lexus in this case.

I agree, I think it was because of the tune, my 20s, lack of starting grip, and short race distance. I easily beat SRT8s with my stock rims but this was my first race with the 20s. I thought the VR05s weight is comparable to the stock rims?

Anyways, when I got home I noticed my car was idling high (around 1,800 rpm). I thought maybe the car's adrenaline was high so I gave her a rest, had lunch and called clients.

When I took it out a couple hours later I noticed the high idle was still there. I thought "OMG, I broke my 6.2!" So I went to Home Depot and bought some weed killer (I have a lazy gardener when it comes to weeds and fertilizer but you can't beat $50 a month).

On my way home it was still idling high and would not engine-brake when I downshift because of the high idle speed. Maybe the throttle sensor or some electronic part went bad. It wasn't making any uncommon sounds.

I thought of Toyota and looked at my gas pedal and noticed the aluminum pedal cover slid up and was causing the throttle to stay open, I guess I was pressing the gas pedal so hard it moved :smash:

Whoa, that throttle thing sounds scary.

It looks like there is a metal plate that is part of the throttle pedal assembly and then the AMG pedal (with the aluminum) attaches to it via rubber that wraps around the metal throttle assembly. I guess I pushed it so hard the rubber/aluminum cover slid off the metal pedal.
