$$$ to reach 500 WHP

Hey guys I'm thinking of buying a stock 04 E55 and was wondering what I should expect to spend on mods to reach 500 rear wheel horsepower?

Considering I am doing the work, so just parts alone.

Thanks for the input!

It seems like everyone is running 500 rwhp these days with 600 rwtq..... All kidding aside it will take a 180 pulley, cooling, tune, and some headers. Prices will vary depending on who you decide to go with.

To note...dyno numbers vary and 500 rwhp has been achieved by stage 1's .

If you want to talk track numbers that's a whole different story.

Getting into the 11s is the feat. Getting to the 10s is goddly. Stage 5 will get you feated. Breaking into the low 11s is tough as heat soak overtakes power.

Times are changing my friend and I honestly believe getting into the low 11's will be easily accomplished for the willing. If you remember not too long ago I was hanging out with ya a bit at Famoso as you were trying to help me get my launch technique dialed in. A year later I'm ripping of high 10's with 60' times at 1.5's consistently at a typical test-n-tune.

May I ask what or better who's package this is?

This is fairly reasonable price point. I was expecting the answer to be closer to $10k.

to get 500+ stay stock and just screw with the callobrations on the dyno. WAYYY cheaper and seems to be the chosen method. i am stage 5+ and pushing mid 500's but have seen ppl running stage 1 with my same numbers OR BETTER. its all in the art of manipulation

Well the problem is my friend has bought an 05 CTS-V and is doing heads and cam. To avoid being horsewhipped in my 01 E55 it's going to require a W211 that's making a real life 500 WHP. A fake dyno isn't going to cut it.

it was more of a joke - even though its unfortunately true. to answer ur question honestly - stage1 should get u approx 475. stage 2 should be 500+

Varies by tuner and client but I thought this thread was helpful...

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...tages-e55.html

Quoting V12Godspeed...

Stage 1- Pulley & Tune

Stage 2- Pulley, Tune, Headers & Heat Exchanger

Stage 3- Pulley, Headers, Tune, Heat Exchanger, 80 MM Throtle Body

Stage 4- Pulley, Headers, Tune, Heat Exchanger, 80 MM Throtle Body, Cams (well know for the famous Kleeman K4)

Stage 5- Pulley, Headers, Tune, Heat Exchanger, 80MM Throtle Body, Cams, Intake mods (Used by RennTech, they do CF Airbox and no Cams)

These days....they have variations of these mods by either putting long tube headers, 82Mm throtle body, meth injection, cold air intakes, Bigger Pulley, etc....but the core items are those. If I missed anything someone please chime in.

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
Every company has a different level on Stages.
As stated above, pulley, good tune, cooling, and headers will get you to your goal.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

Would I be wise to look for a nice stock example or one that has the mods done?

How long do these cars live at these high horsepower numbers? My 01 E55 has Vadim's underdrive pulleys, ECU tune, shorty headers and X-pipe and runs strong with no problems. However, this is nowhere near the power levels of the modded W211.

I always try to mod my own cars unless I absolutely know what the car has had done. Out of all the people on this board, I would buy modded cars from 1 person. Other than that, i would want a fully stock or brand new.

Stage - 2 will give you 500whp with good tune even if u don't have HE ( I reached that before), but of course HE is one of the mods that you must have.

Stage - 3 will take you somewhere near 515 - 525 depending on headers, tune, and the TB (whether really 80 or 78 rounded to 80)

I spent about 7.1k to go from 391whp to 516whp. This included all labor and a full tune-up.

you shouldnt be worried about HP you should worry about how fast to make the car, dynos dont mean too much.. I have a lower HP car but run fast 1/4 times..for my mods

This all depends on how well you shop and how much you can do yourself. I have all the mods to make over 500whp and spent far less then what peple have posted

1. VRP 175 pulley -$650 New off a Member on the board
2. PLM heat Exchangers and CM30 - $450 New from Ebay
3. PLM Headers- $1000 new from Ebay( sponsored price)
4. 82mm Audi TB - Used $75 Ebay De
5. Machining for TB $100
6. Dyno tune of your choice- $500-600

Total Spend $2775

Install Labour: Free by me-
To pay somebody maybe $1200 more (headers, TB, and pulley)

Point is, it can be done....

To get the best pricing (and maximum horsepower), you will have to buy parts individually or seperately from different companies depending on what parts they offer. Assuming you buy everything new and at retail pricing, the total amount for the mods will be slightly higher, but still a great bargin for the power you will be getting

1) 180 mm Pulley: from ASP directly, likely at $900.

2) 82 mm Throttle Bodies: here you have many choices and the price varies greatly. You can get them from Evosport, James@AGCSD, RennTech, TTMotorsports, etc.... price will be anywhere from $1500 to $2500

3) Headers. You'll need either high-flow manifolds or long-tubes for maximum power. Long-tubes seem to produce best results and have been proven on the quickest/fastest 55k models currently holding the records. You can get these from Chris@FlooredFab and I believe they run $2500. MBH Motorsports offer really nice ones as well for $3400 but have not been run on the track yet... only on the dyno.

4) Heat Exchanger + CM30 pump (may need 2) + rear tank reservoir + possibly spacers. You won't get lost on this one, as every aftermarket company I know of sells them. I'm guessing $2000 to $2500

5) Custom Tune to pull everything together. This one is very important and is key for seamless integration. Around $1500.

6) Optional intake mods: RennTech Carbon Fiber Airbox or Custom intake of some sort.

That bills gone to 11k, isn't that a little to high?, just a few posts above someone managed to do it for 3k.

Look at those prices. If you have a tool set you can save a TON of money. The only parts I recommend having a professional install are the headers and the Pulley.

1. Pulley, 180mm. About $1100 installed.
2. Headers, LET Long TUbes ($2000 plus installl) or Kleeman Shorties with Cat/res deletes ($1500 plus install)
3. Heat Exchanger plus a Meziere Pump, dont buy the CM30. Make your own Split system with reservoir, ($700 installed)
4. Tune, $700.

Everyone will throw you a ton of prices. Every Dyno will read different numbers also. Pick one dyno and use that for your baseline and for every mod after that. If you don't want to do some of the work yourself, then you will spend about $10,000 easily. All said and done, $15,000.00 later, you should have about 560rwhp/620rwtq with a good tune.
