E55 AMG
Do the TT 12cyl have the same throw you back in your seat experience as the 55's?

I'm considering an SL600 as my next car vs. another E55, but it's important to me to have that raw tq that plants you in your seat and scares passengers. So do they? Either car will be mildly modded and daily driven. Thanks--Andy

Andy...stock vs stock...hands down the TTV12 is more exhilirating. My E55 is modded so it is closer but still lacks the linear craziness of the TTV12...and now that the ECU has been massaged by Kleeman the torque pull is even more violent.

Marcus Frost could probably articulate it better than I can since he is more mechanically adept (he has the E55 and SL65 like I do)...

PS If you think the E55 creates a lot of heat, the SL65 is worse so if you plan to get the SL600 upgrade the cooling system as much as you can. Marcus and I have upgraded to larger and more efficient heat exchangers and Thericker I believe has a separate rear cooling system setup...

There are 2 turbos and 4 more cylinders. What the hell could be better about that?

Well I drove the SL65 and have the E55, and they have such different characters ... the SL65 is super smooth delivery stealth like - the E55 is more violent if u ask me, in ride and delivery. The SL65 will loose traction at pretty much and legal speed if u punch it. Its quiet, solid, smooth - and clearly very fast, but I think the E is more of a neck snap off the line. A shortwhile later the V12 takes over... but its so quiet and with so little fuss you almost dont realise how quickly you are picking up speed. The 65 brakes are something else too.

It really comes down to your personal taste.... and I have to say I am a bit split which I prefer. Lets say at double the price of an E I was not sold on the SL65... and I should add the 65 was bone stock, and had the (to me) horrible brown wood interior....

RE: SL600

The V12 in the R230 is a torque monstor. Add a stage 1 tune and it is a bigger torque monstor. Drive one and decide if you like it, ultimately that is what matters.

Terrible idea. I've never heard of a twin turbo V12 having adequate torque or being faster than a supercharged V8. Never.

Lets just say that they make enough torque to spin the globe in the opposite direction

E55 AMG
Thanks to all the smart asses that enlightened me...And a real thanks to those who filled me in. More or less, I know that SL600's are going to be faster, but it's rare I really utilize any top end capability on my daily driver, hence why I ruled out the M5's top end capability but low end mundaneness. I just wanted to make sure an SL600 was violent like the E55. It's the 0-60 burst I'm realistically concerned about when I'm in town jacking around vs the triple digit speeds I entertain every so often. I have a REAL FAST car for that on the weekends

Real Cars
Having had two V12s and 3 55Ks, I can tell you that the V12s are not as "violent" as the 55Ks due to the laws of thermodynamics. The V12 has been developed to give a very smooth yet powerful torque curve that builds very quickly. Even though the V12s don't have a lot of turbo lag, the simple fact is that turbos need time to pressurize the intake tract and when running some 20+psi it takes exhaust-powered turbochargers just a brief moment longer to get to full torque whereas with the 55K cars the supercharger clutch engages and it pressurizes much more quickly because it's relying on the crank to spin it rather than exhaust gasses.

The best way I usually describe it is that the V12 is more of a very heavy weight pressing against your chest, whereas the 55K is more of a lighter baseball bat being swung against your chest. The baseball bat is a brutal hit but that all that heavy weight can feel downright suffocating...

There is no mistaking one or the other, they are definitely different.

Here's a very recent thread that concurs the V12TTs may not be as violent. I wouldn't say they are slower than stock 55s though. https://mbworld.org/forums/s55-amg-s...ml#post4079760
