Great post and write-up Shardul...thanks for sharing and assisting us with addressing potentially stressful issues! Makes ownership that bit easier.

Where did you get the sensor? Mine is going bad on my SL55.

Thanks

Great write up.

I'm going to need to invest in a nice set of tools some day.

Thanks Shardul

The link is for my 2004 E55. You may want to play with it to match your car. Good Luck

BTW I just added some leather care or anything $10.00 to the CART. That will make the shipping free. Otherwise they will charge $9.95 for shipping so you are really getting $10 worth of merchandise for free.

Can anyone tell me what size of extension was used. I went to the store twice and had no luck with a 6" and 10" extension. I did a search and noticed that people were using a 24" extension. The screw is so hard to get to. Wonder why they placed it under the sensor and not above it. Thanks!

10 to 12inch should be fine. See the pics of the extension I posted.

Thanks. I tried again (this time after removing the air box) and it was no issue with the 10" extension. I guess I just need some more patience.

The MB part # is A 003 153 27 28

My car exhibited the no-start sympton three or four times this weekend, so I took it to the dealer this morning to let my MB extended warranty cover the repair. Service Adviser said it's probably the CPS and that when they get to the four or five year age mark, they typically start to fail in high heat conditions (like the freakin' hot ATL). Last thing I need is to get stranded somewhere, as almost happened yesterday.

Good DIY info, definitely needs to be in the DIY sticky thread.

So is that a 8mm socket you listed or a #8 Torx bit? I ask because i see quite a few torx type bolts in that engine bay. Thanks.

Good DIY! Thanks a lot!!!

Replaced my sensor today, damn is it tight in there. Took about 4 hours from start to finish including the occasional break LOL big hands dont help!, killed 3 bees in the process too, pos' kept comming out fo no where!.. Worse part is getting the socket in the tiny space and making sure the screw doesnt fall... will never do it again myself haha
