My First Car : 2003 E55 AMG :-D
Whats up guys... Ive been lurking for a couple weeks now scoping out the classifieds section and reading reviews... and I found a good deal on a Silver Tectite Grey 2003 E55 AMG. Went and test drove it... fell in love before I got it back to the dealers lot.
Anyways - great to finally have a reason to call this forum home. The only thing I've planned at this point is tinting the windows, and maybe replacing the grille with a star grille instead of the plain one on there now.
Also - from the driving I've done in the last few days I really need to learn to keep the RPM in check - I'm averaging about 10-12 MPG. Also read somewhere that I might need to replace the air filter, as that could be effecting the gas mileage a bit?? Any other suggestions on the subject would be appreciated.

Congrats on your purchase! She's definately a beauty!
Just a few things after reading what you wrote... You can't change the grille because your car has Distronic (you can tell by the pane of glass/plastic at the bottom of the grille) .. If you change it out, it's possible Distronic will stop functioning...
Also, your rear diffuser looks cracked, rear left next to the exhaust tip... Did the previous owner have an aftermarket diffuser before?

Nice work. DO NOT put that star grill on. Despite the fact that its fugly and cheap looking, harjothundal is right, your Distronic will stop working.
Throw a CF diffuser on it to fix that crack, tint the windows, maybe some lowering links and rims in the future, but for now you're sittin pretty. The mod bug will come sooner or later, no reason to rush it. Enjoy

You have great taste in cars I always loved the tectite gray color and it is the color I would have chosen if I did not get silver. I would avoid the star grille like others have stated simply because it is unattractive looking. Congrats and enjoy the beast!

Most people get scrappers or beaters for their first cars, so definitely be happy and respect those who are not as fortunate! My first car was a 96' Toyota Camry with 160k miles and I was thrilled to death especially when I put in my $100 CD player, those were the good ol' days

the first car i drove was a 1973 Chevy station wagon with faux wood vinyl.
the first car i bought was a brand new, bare-bones 1986 toyota 2wd pickup. Did you know they would hit 105mph?
Now, imagine me buying an E55 instead of that pickup.

Thats a boat load of power for a first car. please respect the power that car puts out. Its, not really a car to be cutting your teeth on. Remember this its faster than most things on the road. So you have nothing to prove.
My first car was an 82 camaro with a 305 in it. It was such a POS.

Good health
Welcome to the family like others have said you can't roll the star grille due to distronic (which is pretty badazz and rare on these cars) and you'd get flamed anyways for doing said mod lol. Tint will look sick as would some euro bumper strips to get rid of the side markers.
There's a ton of cheap cosmetic mods you can do if you're interested shoot me a PM.
My first car was a gold Saturn sedan hand me down from my parents. I loved it until some chick totaled it when she rear ended me lol.

Yeah Ive driven a couple of my friends' cars before this one over the years (I'm 24) but I had just actually put off getting my license because I never had the $$$ for a car, and up until recently I lived in big cities with really good public transportation.
For the last year and a half I've been dabbling in online marketing and earlier this summer it REALLY started to pay off. I figured what the hell -
YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE and I don't ever want to look back and regret not living life to its fullest... so I went to the dealership with their asking price - IN CASH - in my pocket...
I actually got lucky because some other guy had came in with his fiance and looked at the car earlier that same day - and after he test drove it they left, to "think about it". They came back to buy it while I was on the test drive!!! Man should've seen the looks on their faces when the sales guy went out and told them I was buying it. I couldn't even make eye contact, but I saw all the disappointment in their faces as they walked off the lot. Ya snooze ya lose!!!
here's one last pic of mine for the thread on that note, me bunjee jumping earlier this summer in Vancouver, BC. Kinda seemed appropriate after the whole you only live once speech

You had me rushing out to the garage at an ungodly hour on my hands and knees behind my baby checking for cracks in the diffuser lol... not to mention i paid $170 for a PSI so I was kinda pissed that they would have missed something like that ... but it's just the chrome reflecting in the sunlight.
For sure, definitely interested - will send a PM.

If I might interject, I highly recommend going to a driving school or perhaps a Car Control Clinic or HPDE put on my BMWCCA, PCA or SCCA. I cut my teeth on a SCCA CCC and learned a lot as a 16 year old. I continued with BMWCCA HPDEs and you get to learn the limits of your car in a safe environment.
