Kind of but no. I am saying that I would expect the things to work on high dollar cars for a bit longer. I don't care how much it costs to fix them. They should just work longer. I only used the escort as an example because everything (little as it may be) still works. I guess it just might take longer for the testing on buyers to improve the technology.

Thats a different issue. I would say an E55 would outlast a civic or accord if driven the same way. No one buys an E55 and drives it like they would drive an accord. It takes more wear and tear and because of that parts will wear out faster.

Just dealing with the topic at hand, I don't think the doors on a civic or accord will stop working before the E55's no matter how you drive it. Airmatic won't go out either. The hondas don't have it but it should last a bit longer on the MB.

I dont think the doors or suspension on a civic are anywhere near as complicated as an E55. Are you saying a highly complex air suspension system should last longer than your standard springs?

foAnother point is that MB joint venture with Chrysler allowed them to tap into the parts bin they had available and from what I gather, pushed MB into more of an assembly line process and mass production of cars. Look how may E Class W211s are on the highway. You did not see near as many in prior model years.

Reason I bring that up, this door latch assembly looks like if could have been made better. The motor on the latch actuator looks like something that came off of one of those $5.00 remote control cars.

Wow. I really am trying to get in your frame of mind right now. Maybe not as long, but longer than they do. That is only one of many malfunctions that can happen on the E55.

For the last time- Love MB and the E55, just think that the creature comforts were more reliable for the long run.

My frame of mind? You mean a dose of reality?

A quick browse of the boards before you bought you are would say otherwise.

Im just saying, if they put shiaty escort door hinges, shiaty escort springs, and shiaty escort manual windows in an E55, you probally would have saved your money and bought another shiaty Escort. Instead people want to spend 20K on an E55 instead of a shiaty Escort, but when things break they want to pay shiaty escort prices for parts. Technology cost money if not, we would all drive shiaty escorts.

Reality is nice and a search does tell you what goes wrong with these cars but that doesn't make them more reliable.

Yes, I do know now more about the upkeep and am going to be more prepared when I buy my next MB, but it is still sad how unreliable they are. I will deal with it though.

I will throw it out there because it always comes up in these threads...YOU GOT TO PAY TO PLAY! Dont buy a 100k car for 20k with 100,000 miles on it and expect it to have the maint., parts cost, or reliability of a 20k car. Technology cost money to maintain and repair! Hell my wifes nav went out in our previous trusty Lexus GX470 and it was $2200 repair. Bet an escort navi. dosnt cost that much......oh wait....escorts dont have navi.

LOL,,,,you are too easy to "F" with! Honestly, I dont think an airbag suspension is gonna last longer then some shiaty spring suspension in an escort or some crapy leaf spring in a Chevy truck. I guess I just know that going in!

Takes the bus.
**** does go wrong with all of our cars. Most of us just know that with driving these cars comes inherent risk towards heavier and more costly maintenance/upkeep than a stripped down, economical car etc.
Especially when you consider the way most of our driving habits are like when driving an amg

Its part of the package.

Don't. "F" with me. I am one of your biggest fans since I got on this forum. I respect you and love what you do with your cars. I really love your new "older" CLS and can't wait to see what comes of it. I will never be of as high of status as you but you are the type of people that keep me going and seek for more in life. I just think that things should last longer.

You backed your way into a 100k Benz, thats why you are complaining($26k for a new car gets you a fully loaded Chevy Cruze), but you didnt want that you wanted a BENZ. Gotta pay to play! Dont bunch all W211s in this category. Even E55 owners say try to stay away from 03 and 04 they were bad years with issues (not all of them but a majority). If you know Benz the early 2000s were awful cars and not until recently have they gotten their act together. So what you hold a door, your car is also faster than 85% of the cars on the road which is probably a reason of why you bought it.
