TINT Help! 20% or 35% All Around???

Anyone have any pics of their tints? Debating between going 35% or 20% all around.

E55Dimon 02-17-2011 12:32 PM

Where do you live? Tint tickets are no fun.

Turbo 6 02-17-2011 12:39 PM

35% all the way around is the way to go.

shooter 02-17-2011 12:41 PM

I have some pics, but they aren't very good. I went with 35 due to the restrictions in Illinois. I think it looks great. I can email you them if you want. When I get better ones, I'll post on the forum. I'm waiting to finish painting my badges and installing head and tail light films before I do some nice shots.

I know 20% is illegal.....but on a black 4 door car with pano roof the tint wouldn't look as dark.

Rust bucket 02-17-2011 12:55 PM

20%

Mka77 02-17-2011 01:10 PM

35 looks the classiest. IMO

Benz-O-Rama 02-17-2011 01:13 PM

I use 20% on all my cars. I've been pulled over once for it. Ever.

TheVazha 02-17-2011 01:13 PM

35% on the 4 door windows, 20% on the back window. At night time the 35% is dark enough to not see your face. In the day time, it looks factory "smoked". Dooo it.

Lycan 02-17-2011 01:31 PM

I am doing 35% all the way around.

BenzoDoc 02-17-2011 01:32 PM

I'm in Texas and clearly we've got different laws.

5% on the rear window, 5% on the rear doors, and either 20 or 35% on the front doors, whichever the legal limit is.

BenzoDoc 02-17-2011 01:39 PM

And I'm taking a lunch break in an hour, so I'll snap some pics of car in the sun for you if sig isnt adequate.

As for other Texas people:

I went for 35 all around and 20 on the rear windshield. Very classy look even though I drive with the windows 95% of the time lol.

Good suggestion. I did 20% on rear and rear doors, and 35% on front doors, on my 335i. I felt it gave me the best privacy, while still allowing the local law enforcement the ability to see in the front. I never had an issue.

Lycan 02-17-2011 01:52 PM

Does anyone have a side pic with 35% on their car?

I had 35% all the way around, but since the Mercedes glass is already a bit tinted, it was showing up around 19%

I just took all of my tints off yesterday. First of all, I was tired of getting tickets. $90 for each window. I got a couple, especially in Manhattan.

Second, I did not like the visibility at night too much - you can still see fine, but you can't make out the cars as well behind you with the tint, and if you try to backup out of a tight space at night, it's much harder.

I attached two pictures, one with the tints and one without below.

Now, I will say this - you definitely feel the heat from the sun without the tints, it's why I got them in the first place. I am thinking of putting on the 70% or 75% tints, just for sun protection, but to still look fairly untinted and within NY state laws.

Yeah... that's the one and ONLY drawback of 5% :p:

Hellzno 02-17-2011 01:57 PM

I love 20%, but here in MoCo MD I'd get a ticket in minutes...

For what it's worth - I have 20% on my daily (a Camry Hybrid) and 35% on the 55 and I prefer the 20% to the 35% (who's really going to mess with a Camry Hybrid for tints:rolf:). As mentioned before, at night with 35% you can't see in the car so it's good from a privacy standpoint but you can definitely see in the car during the day. I also live in MoCo and everytime I've been pulled over (in both cars) I've had nothing said about the tint on each. However, it has been my experience that law enforcement is really not going to cut you any sort of break any time you're breaking the rules in a MB (no matter how nice you are - and I'm always nice when I see flashing lights:D)

For cooling purposes, they're both the same - if privacy is your concern - go with the 20%. I'm actually debating pulling off the 35% and going with 20% on the 55 but I'm hesitant as well about attracting the wrong kind of attention (and law enforcements general lack of sympathy when rolling in a 500hp MB). My neighbor got a tint ticket last fall (20% on his 55) but he just pulled it off to comply and immediately got it re-tinted 20% (he also put 20% on his XKR)

Here's 35% also (on a cloudy day).
