W211 Sirius satellite channels

I just subscribed my 2007 E63's satellite receiver for the first time, and quickly noticed that I am not able to listen to all of the channels in their "Select" package. I think a radio of this vintage only allowed channels 1-223 or so, but there are several in that range, which are part of the subscription, but aren't available to me. An example is that channel 114 works, but 113 and 115 don't. All are part of the Select package. When I asked SXM, they told me that my receiver doesn't have enough "bandwidth" to get all of the channels in the package.

Can anyone confirm that this is as good as it gets with stock Sirius equipment under today's SiriusXM service? Is there a firmware upgrade, etc to update my receiver?

Does anyone know if a newer vintage receiver module can be substituted to allow all of channels 1-223 to be heard?

Thanks!

Apparently, this has something to do with the older receiver's inability to deal with new channel configurations. The customer support lady at SXM told me that channels could continue to drop off over time as they are reconfigured. Then she offered so sell me a new receiver lol.

This is why I wondered if a newer vintage Mercedes receiver module might be plug-compatible. Maybe find a used one, swap it out, and subscribe it to get the missing channels.

Won't work unless you swap out to NTG 2.5 and even then you won't get all the stations.

Dangit - I'm fresh out of NTG 2.5's.

WRT "all the stations", I am only trying to support CH 1-223, which the Komand unit apparently supports.

Same here, non stop 'updating'. Forget it if you try to change the station b/c you can't.
Ironic we don't get 55 in our 55 :/
I can't complain as I have a discounted select price package

has anyone tried a newer satellite receiver? the W212 or W222 look like they have the same connections. or is the problem in the head unit?

You can get the select package for $20 for 5 months or $25 for 6 months. You just have to call and say you're canceling. The 3rd time is the charm when they offer you the lowest price, I think the first offer is $99 for a year, then some other intermediate offer and then you get the 5 month for $20 last. I've renewed my a couple of times at the same price. They always say they can just do it once. Then I call later and do it again.

http://slickdeals.net/f/8480347-siri...src=SiteSearch

If you haven't activated it, you can get 2 free months here:

https://care.siriusxm.com/preownedve...al_view.action

And I don't have Utopia on mine either so must be an NTG10 thing.

A bunch of TT's
I pay the $26/6months, going on 2yrs.

I tried paying the $50 for 1yr this past renewal but they always say it's a promo for 6months only so I guess I will "cancel" in 6 months lol. They always say wow, that's pretty low pricing..

I did notice a new $3 fee

Well, I'm hoping that two wrongs (not following up in the first place, and resurrecting an old thread) will make a right here.

First - thanks to all that contributed to this thread - very useful feedback! I didn't know about the Android options out there and find this very tempting.

Second - I've gotten a few DM's regarding this thread and whether or not I have found a way to get "all" of the channels on my 07 E63 factory sat. The answer to that is NO. Again, the Android option would do nicely!

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...-pics-txt.html

Thanks again all!

Great news to report!

Thanks to member dmxf for doing some digging and trying this on his 2007 C280. He checked with the dealer and discovered that his Sirius Satellite receiver module has been superseded by a newer part number. He located a receiver by the latest part number, which came from a 2011 vehicle, and once swapped into his vehicle it enabled all of the missing channels listed above in this thread. Note that the audio system only supports channels up to 223, so you will never get higher channels with this solution. It's the 30+ missing channels above that this fixes.

So I took this a little further. It turns out that both of my vehicles (2007 E63 and 2007 ML63) supersede to the same receiver module that dmxf put into car to fix the issue. Here is the sequence of part numbers listed for my vehicles:

- 1698270162 (original part number - this was in both of my vehicles before the upgrade)
- 2118703389
- 2118706790 ("present" part number - this is the latest compatible receiver module)

The last part number (2118706790) is the one that has now solved the problem on all 3 vehicles listed above. It appears that this part number was introduced in 2008 vehicles, and it doesn't matter what year vehicle it came from. Both of my modules came from 2008 model year vehicles and it shows that exact same hardware and software version as the 2011 part. Take a look at the image below for the label that shows the part number and HW/SW versions. Again, it seems that just the part number is sufficient as a change in hardware or software would likely have required a new part number.

Nothing beyond swapping out the receiver module (and calling Sirius with the new EIN/serial number) needs to be done to fix the issue. Sirius may charge you $15 to transfer your subscription to the new receiver, but if you end up with a friendly on the line, they might understand that the ONLY REASON THAT YOU ARE DOING THIS IS BECAUSE THEY BROKE YOUR CHANNELS!!!

I never tried the middle part number above (2118703389) - it may fix this particular problem as well, but note that it has the exact same hardware version as the latest part, but an older software version, so there is likely something better about the newest version.

I found both of my receivers on eBay for under $70.00 shipped each, so this was well worth it to me. There's also a chance that you'll get a subscribed receiver (one of mine was)

I didn't disconnect the battery when doing this upgrade. I just made sure that the key was out of range and everything was off. Once everything was plugged in and safe, I powered the radio on and either it worked right away (because the receiver module was still subscribed from the previous owner), or it went to the Preview channel.

I was obviously VERY careful in moving other modules out of the way. I didn't have to disconnect any other module connectors (beyond the sat module ones) on the E63 and only had to remove one small (fiber optic?) connector on a module on the ML63 - this module was on top of the sat module and I couldn't comfortably get to the sat module otherwise. Note that in the case of this module type, what you are likely to see when locating it is the "back" side as in the second photo. Three 8mm hex nuts are attached to those studs - removing the nuts allowed the box to be completely removed (E63) or removed from a carrier plate (ML63).

Hope this helps someone else out there!

I have 07 satellite and the channels that were missing in the original post are present on my vehicle. The Sirius support lady was incorrect when she said the channels were missing do to bandwidth. Current channels present on a 2018 Sonata extend into the 400s as I recall. I was told by customer service Sirius didnt have any French channels. I had three people on the phone disagreeing with me. They do ch 163,166,170, had to prove it to them.

Satellite Radio Problem 2009 S550

I have a 2009 S550. Late last year the satellite radio quit receiving. I took it into MB dealer here and they charged $179 for diagnostics. I am not convinced they did any serious testing; they thought maybe it was the antenna. But My AM, FM, weather band, and GPS satellite reception seem fine (I am attaching pics of a few of the engineering menu vales from the car). I am wondering if the satellite module of my 2009 W221 S550 has gone out. My current Sat module is a Sirius Satellite Module 2168202189.

I am wondering (based on earlier entries in this thread) if I can replace it with a Sirius Satellite Module
2118706790; or should I stay with the current part number?

Do you have any advice?

Pretty disappointing that your dealer charged you and didn't provide a diagnosis.

I don't think that the satellite radio's antenna is used for AM, FM, or even GPS (though GPS seems at least possible), so it seems possible that your antenna is indeed bad. Maybe you can find a used one cheap and give it a try with it laying on the roof of your car. I don't know the design of these antennae - they could have a built-in amplifier - so other models may not be compatible. A passive antenna should give a resistance measurement of (much) less than 100 ohms between the outer and inner conductors at the connector, but even that is not a certainty. The dealer service guides may describe a simple ohm check that might reveal a failed antenna or antenna cable.

On the receiver model number, somebody at your local MB dealer's parts counter should be able to look up the order of supersession to determine which receiver module models will work in your vehicle. Generally speaking, a newer model should have improved compatibility with SiriusXM.

Thank you. I played it safe and bought a used 2168202189 (original PN) and it resolved the no Sirius problem immediately; and it was an easy remove/install. I am now contemplating trying a newer version and I will call the MB parts desk and see what they think the most recent replacement of the original part number is.

Why?

Going to a newer Receiver even if it did work won't gain you anything

I think I need to join in with AMGPilot on this. My "Generally speaking, a newer model should have improved compatibility with SiriusXM" statement above was a little reckless. While it's possible that SiriusXM continued to make incompatible changes after your model year, I think you should already have the answer to that via missing channels, etc. If it ain't broke...
