How much faster is M5 than E55?
 

Hey there fellas!

I was riding on the highway the other day and found a rival on the M5. Well, all i can say is that it was much faster than my 2005 CLS55. It would win a whole body (spelling?) before i can hit 100 Km/h and a few more till i hit 200Km/h. So... My question is - is the M5 really that fast of a car, or is my car became sluggish after 110000 Km of mileage? I've recently changed the H/E and installed Johnson pump instead of the stock one.
What would guys advise to check?

Loads of discussion on this... and bottom line is E55 faster off the line and perhaps up to 100mph but beyond that the M5 is quicker due to gearing and less heatsoak.

Impossible to say, everybody knows when a 55K and M5 race the space and time continum warps, and should the two ever touch the whole of space would collapse upon itself. My suggestion is you do not discuss this topic further....

Oh god. Hear we go again! Wait i'll help, obviously that car was faster than yours, my car is faster than the m5 I raced, stock, the e55 is quicker but then again that depends on the driver and if it's a straight line or road course... And on and on...

OP, lame post as this has been discussed numerous times on this board. E55 is faster in all areas hands down. Go find another pot to stir.

I was going to buy a M5 until I drove one around town. I felt it was very slow around town compared to the E55. Yes it felt good at highway speeds but in reality there is no comparison around town where I do most of my driving. Both cars have good points it is up to the driver to determine which one suits :)

Stock e55 put down 416hp/466 tq

Curb weight:
'06 E55...4087lbs

Transmission:

And these.............

M5 gear ratios 3.99:1, 2.65:1, 1.81:1, 1.39:1, 1.16:1, 1.00:1, 0.83:1
E55 gear ratios 3.59:1, 2.19:1, 1.41:1, 1.00:1, 0.83:1

E55 is faster first 3 gears than the M5 stock and the m5 is faster 4th,5th,6th but by the time the e55 hits 4th gear its already 2-3 cars ahead and who here actually races past 140mph?

Modding the e55 is not fair and will beat an M5 all the way to 170mph and only when the e55 hits 5th gear will a modded m5 have a chance.

If the E55 had the close ratio e63 gearbox it would walk the M5 all the way to 200
