Question E55 Starting problems, cranks but won't always start ????

I did search the forums for this problem but i didn't find an answear to my problem.

I got a 2005 E55, some time ago it started acting up it cranks but won't start. Some times it starts after 4-5 crank and other times it starts right up and everything is normal. Had that problem a month ago, than it went away. Now it came back after i filled my tank full. Car keeps cranking everything seems normal but wont start like its not getting fuel. My tech had the car for 4 days and he was not able to figure it out, plus i dont want to start replacing parts that might have nothing to do with the problem.

Anyone had the same issue and got it fix ?

Thanks

Thanks, I was thinking about that too. need to call the dealer and see if they have them in stock. I got no CEL or any messages which blows! It would help me alot with diagnosing the problem.

I agree the CPS is what I'd be looking at.

A buddy had a starting issue, replaced the CPS, still had the issue. Turned out to be the fuel pump under the rear seat on the passenger side

Check to see if you can hear you fuel pump prime. Also check to see if you have ignition spark.

It might be the fuel pump because few days ago i had bad fuel smell in the car after i filled my tank full. That was the day this starting issue came back after a month of no problems.
@ AWOL did your buddy replace the pump ? and did the problem went away ? Bcause i dont want to replace someting that might not be the issue.
Thanks

Again, before you swap out parts....test them.

Has your car had the fuel pump recall performed on it yet?? If not take it to a dealer and get them to do it for free.

Ok so i called the dealer again right now i gave them my vin and they told me it has no recall on it again. They said i can bring the car in they can diagnose it and gave me a estimate on how much they repairs would be. In other words i can bring it and and they car charge me up my *** for replacing the puel pump.

So i just replaced the fuel pumps behind the driver seat yesterday, and everything was fine until today morning. When i tried starting the car it would still crank and not start(keyless go) but when i put the key in the ignition the car starts with no problem! Any ideas ?

Were the fuel pump the only thing repaired? Did they not replace the crank position sensor?

Unhappy

Yes, only the fuel pumps were replaced. I doubt its the CPS because the car sometimes will start and than dies right away like its not getting fuel. The pumps are brand new from the dealer.

From what i read on forums many ppl had the same starting problem but no one posted the solution.

The fuel pumps usually are not the issue. The fuel pumps are under the passenger side of the seat but the leak occurs on the drivers side of the car under the seat. the fuel pumps are connected under the seat from the passenger side to the drivers side pick up. The outlet on the drivers side pickup is plastic with a metal insert. The metal insert is not long enough inside the plastic and the gas eventually leaks through the plastic and causes a leak. As the leak get's worse you will lose fuel pressure in the line as the car sits and when you try to start it it will just crank cause there's not enough pressure in the line to allow the car to fire. After cranking it the pressure starts to build and eventually it will fire up. I would think that if this is your problem then you will have a fuel smell.

If you have any questions about it please feel free to ask.
