Agility Mode TCU tune - Shift delays left in shatters!
Hi Guys,
I know people have been posting about this in some TB hiccup hiccup but I thought not everybody will be looking at TB hiccup forum so wanted to post my review here.
So the TCU arrived this morning, of course I had been obsessively tracking it like a kid on Christmas 🎄 🙃.
Anyway I chuck it in and do the adoptions reset although I am sure the TCU had none stored! Its recommended to reset clutch adoptions in star but im too poor for that so ill just have to drive and let it change them on its own...
Back it out of the garage and into the street. Straight to A Mode and im driving slowly while car warms up and already I notice the gearshift are not mucking around. The car shifts immediately and slaps it into gear pushing the car forward reassuringly. The missus might not like A Mode so much but the lad will. Low/med throttle applications the shifts are immediate and sharp and you sure notice they are sharp. Since I am in suburbia at this point I switch to Manual as I want to keep the car in low gears and not be working with WOT kickdowns to test shifts..
Now car is warm in M mode. I mash the pedal and rev it out . press paddle shift up and wut? car keeps reving and rolling out a gear WTF! But i realize i have switched gears and I didn't even notice!! man thats trippy feels like a cvt at full throttle! tried it a few more times doing skids etc, man the shifts are so crisp I can barely tell its shifted as the car is such a beast! Going to have to get used to not relying on the torque limiting to hook the car up on shifts if traction is missing as I could do on the old tune.
Anyway only driven like 10 miles everything running great so far will report back with more post once more testing....
Oh and beforehand I had a weistec v1 tune which now I consider a paperweight, sorry weistec! Thanks Troy for your service and product!

where did you pickup the agility update and how much did it cost? one member said they could offer it for $75 but would need the customer to find a shop that had STAR to load the firmware that enables agility to the vehicle.

I got it from the zerocat dude. if I had to guess its from the same source as machild was promoting but that was kinda like early access and the guy has wised up aka not emailing source code to customer PCs. It cost 250 plus 35 core charge USD. Im selling my old tuned tcu locally to recoop some of the cost..

mainly been using C mode as been driving the kid around and need to replace some suspension parts which are making the car a little swervy when driving in a straight line and I've been too ill to be bothered doing the work yet. I'll do a video over the next couple of days of the WOT runs.
Shifts for low throttle applications are steadily getting less harsh and more inline with how they were pre tune as the clutch adoptions slowly make changes. I've probably done just shy of 100 miles of town driving. Need to do some highway driving to work on the higher gears maybe ill do a road trip this Christmas 🎄.

yep.
sorry don't recall exact bolt specs but they are reasonably small but if you got a normal socket set you fine..
- Pull back the front passenger footwell carpet.
- Remove polystyrene sheet from metal holder by sliding up and out.
- undo three nuts on the metal backplate
- pry off back plate by lifting up and away, it folds down from the bottom..
- Match the TCU unit with the one your received or pic online
- Remove 2 bolts holding in place on either side.
- slide out and unplug. replace and reinstall.

I promised Troy - @zerocat101 that I would post my thoughts on his TCU. First thing, before I even purchased, I liked that Troy sends a plug/play tuned TCU. No requirement to send my TCU to him and wait for it to be returned. And, if I ever have an issue with this TCU I can swap in the stock TCU (with the previously added Agility mode) and not have the car down. I'm not expecting to have an issue with the it, but stuff can happen and this is an easy insurance policy as far as I am concerned.
I received his tuned TCU last week, installed it this past weekend, reset the adaptations, and now have driven about 75 miles. My car is bone stock, but this TCU has done all the things I wanted. Crisp and firm shifts in Agility mode (the mode I normally drive in), less shift delays in Manual mode, and a little firmer than stock in Sport - prolly just right for my wife. I can't compare this tune to any others, but it gives me what I wanted at a competitive price point. Thanks,Troy

No one seems to bother disconnecting the battery on all of the posts I found. The two bolts are 8mm but the hex is very shallow, your socket will need to be held very straight not to round the edges. The plugs are pretty tight but as long as it easily sits with the pins just inside the plug (there is about 2-3mm of overlap before resistance is encountered, just push hard. Now to go for a drive...

Sorry I didn't see your post until now. But yes, I did not disconnect the battery. I opened the passenger door (all that is needed to have access to the controllers under the floor area there) 30 minutes before I got started and did not touch anything on the car. When I started the TCU swap out, the car was back to sleep and stayed that way while I did the work. Car did not wake up until the job was done and the passenger door was closed. Hope that helps others that come across this.

Great work terry but these threads and posts are like reading riddles.
Also you don't need to let sleep for 30 min on a tcu removal , these things being said are not correct.
Other person no need to remove the whole glovebox as just the plate removal is easy and can swap a tcu in less then 8 min from beginning to end ..

I actually hadn't driven it until today. Overall it is an awesome modification. I never considered any of the previous TCU tunes on offer from other vendors as no one had anything very good to say about them so I can't compare to them. My notes:
Agility (A) mode
Agility (A) mode
- Much much much faster shifts, definitely a lot more forceful. I didn't reset the adaptations so the obvious bump on gear change might improve over time. It isn't uncomfortable at all, just my head was slammed into the head rest (in a good way) at redline shifts a few times. Lots of grinning.
- It is more likely to shift to lower gears when you *partially* plant your foot than the old S mode. I found that the stock TCU frequently wouldn't drop gears unless the pedal switch was activated.
- I still had the occasional scenario when it didn't drop into the lowest gear possible (used 3rd at 2900rpm instead of 2nd at the highway onramp) but I didn't activate the pedal switch ie 98% depressed pedal rather than 100%. Still heaps better than stock overall.
- When you use the paddles in A mode it actually does what you want. I found at regular cruising the stock TCU would wait sometimes 5-10 seconds before going into 4th gear, now it will do it straight away (as long as rpm high enough of course). The stock TCU seemed to love to ignore your upshift requests. Hugely better than stock, it is worth the money for this behaviour alone.
- I did a burnout all the way up a hill, smashed into 2nd and kept going with no traction.
