Urgent!!! help disabling alarm.

I start college tomorrow and the administration decided that the day before was the best time to notify new students that the must disable their alarms because if they go off the car will be towed for disturbing classes.

Mb of Bh techs are gone for the day and no one their could offer any help on how to disable the alarm.

I'm sure there is some kind of way either sneaky ecu reset style ie: pushing buttons patterns in the car or an alarm fuse I can disconnect.

Any help is appreciated.

If there is no other way I'll just disconnect the battery, will this have any side effects when i re-connect it and start the car?

Thanks

It wont go off unless someone breaks into your car... Whats the problem are they going to tow it if someone breaks in for a noise violation?

As ridiculous as it sounds that is exactly what they will do.

Or if someone happens to bump the car or set the alarm off in any other way by accident or on purpose and I'm not right next to the car to turn it off the second it sounds the car will be towed.

I won't be able to tell if it goes off because I'll be across campus.

EDIT: They also argue that on-campus alarms are not necessary because they have a crap-load of campus pd patrolling all day, which is true.

The only way the alarm is going to go off is if someone breaks into your car. And if they do, let them tow your car. At least it won't be stolen.

I'm pretty sure the alarm won't go off without someone forcefully entering the car but I'd prefer to be able to disable the alarm (if there is a way other than disconnecting the battery) so I won't have to worry about it.

So does anyone know how to actually disable the alarm?

Aside from disconnecting the battery.

Mercedes alarms do not have proximity alarms. The only way it goes off is if your car is forcibly entered or the vehicle is towed (unless you have disabled the tow alarm). I have never had a MB alarm have a "false alarm" in my many years of owning MB vehicles... Nor have a seen one. I'm sure if the electronics malfunction, it's a possibility, but you will have a lot more to worry about than having the car towed for the alarm going off at this point... As far as disabling the alarm, I would think that STAR DAS would be the only way to do it, if it can even be done... And I would tell your college that no matter how many police officers are on campus, you still would like the peace of mind of having your car alarm actually do it's job... Who knows, it may even help one of those rent a cops catch the damn thief! I don't care how prestigious or insignificant the university, a university always attracts thieves. Tell them that if they can guarantee (in writing) that no one will break into your vehicle and that if someone does, they will cover the entire expense (not limited to covering the REPLACEMENT cost {not just a valuation}), then you will be keeping the alarm active...

Your car doesn't have the tow button that disables the alarm? It should look like this

edit: just checked the manual for clarification, your car definitely has this. You can use this to disable the alarm when your car is lifted/towed, however this will not disable the panic or anti-theft alarm. The anti-theft alarm goes off when the doors or trunk are opened after they have been locked with the fob.

IMO I wouldn't disable this even if I could, I would just let them tow the vehicle if it comes down to that. Go ahead and get the name of the towing company and phone number in advance just so you're prepared, but I wouldn't worry any more than that.

Just got back from the dealership and they said that the alarm could not be disabled even through star. Even so, as long as the car doesn't have a proximity alarm then I just have to worry about someone trying to open the car.

I didn't even realize I had a tow alarm, but I'll leave that on in case they try to tow the car so it annoys the **** out of them.

Anyways, my only option seems to hope that some douche doesn't set my alarm off and runaway.

Thanks for the info guys

Instead of driving that nice car to college, why not get a POS daily beater? That’s what I do. 95 Escort for Winter, which you do not have to deal with, and also for daily tasks where I do not care if it gets dinged, keyed, smashed etc.

I didn't think it was a possibility in STAR, but I'm not sure. I never really looked for that option. Although the dealer says it isn't possible, you might want to ask in the STAR DIY thread, just for confirmation. I bet the dealer will also tell you that you can't change the speed limiter, even though you can...

I honestly wouldn't worry about your car alarm going off. It's the proximity/motion sensors that are most problematic and cause most of the "false alarms" that are so annoying!!!

+100000000

I could not stress this enough. DO NOT bring your car to school with you. It's an accident waiting to happen. These kids don't give a **** about your car.

Set off your car alarm (leave windows open, lock doors, close doors, manually unlock a door by hand through window, open the door) and trace the sound to the alarm siren. When mine goes off, it sounds like its coming from the right wheel well area. It might be easy to disconnect or just remove the siren altogether if the siren is standalone and not directly integrated with the actual alarm or ignition kill. I've done this with aftermarket alarms but never with an MB alarm so try at your own risk if you really must disable the sounds.

I thought about buying an old vw "Thing" but I have no where to put it.

Anyways, I called the campus pd and managed to work out a deal where if my alarm does sound then i'll have 15 minutes to turn it off before they call the tow-truck.

As far as I know the alarm doesn't go for 15 minutes straight unless someone breaks a window or something and even then I don't think it goes for 15 min.
