Drag Racing, and car height help
Im trying to get these 275/45/18 DR's to fit, but unless I drive the car in 4x4 mode they will not work.
Question is, if my car sits in 4x4 mode or higher, will it effect performance? What if the car is higher in the rear than the front?
Thanks guys

Angelo (scratch) had all sorts of weird issues with the ESP when using large diameter rear tires. It seems that the differential in diameter between front and rear caused the traction control system to go haywire.... Might be worth making a couple of high speed runs just to see if the yellow triangle goes nuts or not.

If your car is like mine the traction light will blink down the whole track and the car will sway back and forth from the car using the brakes to try and correct the wheel speed.
can you nail second gear all the way to red line without the tc coming on?

Your changing the gearing of the car.. Your mph is going to go way down with a tire that tall.. possibly even by about 4-5 mph.. I noticed a difference in my trap speed going from a 275/35/18 to 265/40/18 drag radials.. I would look for some other tires

Have you tried them on your car yet? If the front tires and rear tires are more than one inch different in diameter your car will freak out. Your ESP will be on, and worse case your tranny will lock in second gear.
And yes, with our car top out third gear right around 130mph. If anything, you want shorter rear tires to maximize the hp curve.

mine also threw a wrong gear ration code and went into limp mode,Andrew was at the track that day and the car was fighting me down the whole track applying the brakes at 100 mph,it was not fun and I thought I was going to crash the thing.
after talking to kleemann about it they told me I have less than 2% before the ecu freaks out and my car is wicked sensitive about it,so bad that I even took my 275/35/18s off and swapped them for stock 265/35/18s.

Angelo,
Did you ever try making a 1/4 mile pass in dyno mode or is the car too much of a handful that way?
I was just curious if completely disabling ESP could be a possible workaround for the tire diameter issue.

Good point, but I would be scared to drive that car down the strip with no computer assisting it

Ill be taking it to the track soon and in dyno mode I cant get any decent 60ft because it spins to easily.
Should be fun as Im installing a bigger tb and doing a few more cooling mods.My 160 degree thermo stat came in today and waiting for a few more goodies

tbal,
when it comes to drag racing, i always launch in comfort mode and raised suspension. but keep in mind that at 74mph your car will take itself out of raised mode so if the tires don't fit under normal suspension settings you WILL have problems by half track regardless of whether the computer decides to intervene or not.
