Your thoughts on the M-156 engine "class action" - any merit to it in your minds?
Mates:
I havent heard anything more regarding the class action claims against MB for the alleged M156 engine defects in our W211 e63 cars. Being a lawyer, and understanding class action cases, I am not surprised, as these things take awhile. However, I also have not seen or heard much else in the way of public discussion on the merits amongst fellow MB owners and whatnot.
My question to each of you is how much stock do you put into these allegations – is it concerning to you with respect to your ownership of this car over the long haul? I have on ’07 with 34k miles, and CPO coverage through April, with 24 more months of extended warranty after that. I’m covered for the next 2.5 years. However, for any of you outside of the warranty period, does the allegation concern you?
I’m not a worry wart (well, not really), but have an opportunity to potentially sell my car for a fair price. At this point, I either want to let it go now, while its covered by CPO and will get a decent price (and a refund on the purchase price of the 24 month Extended Warranty), or I want to hold onto it and drive it for a long time. In weighing all the options, I wondered what all of you thought about the issue of the nodular iron camshafts being too soft to function properly with the steel valve lifters. I am NOT mechanically inclined whatsoever, so I don’t really know much about how serious a problem it might or could be.
What do you all think with the M-156 engine allegations?

After first look I can only comment that counsel's bare no-merit conclusion was not an adequate substitute for petitioner's right to full appellate review or to satisfy the requirement of substantial equality and fair process, counsel must be an active advocate, not just an amicus curiae
For real though guys, to consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions [is] a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy. The constitution has erected no such single tribunal, knowing that to whatever hands confided, with the corruptions of time and party, its members would become despots.
A judiciary independent of a king or executive alone, is a good thing; but independence of the will of the nation is a solecism
No f'in clue what I just typed........I copied it from the some Cali Supreme Court Document and threw in some Jefferson for spice

2007 CLK63AMG CABROILET
Does this class action affect all M156 engines or just the ones installed in the E63? I have 2007 CLK63 Cabroilet. This is the first I have heard any potential problems regarding the M156 engine.

It is for ALL vehicles with it.
ML, C, E, etc, etc
Just not enough failures, or even pictures of ANY failures for me to put stock in it. Good discussion over at tsoobzenb

Re: M156 Class Action
I've had my 2007 for 2.5 years; my miles are low, I'm currenly at 24K, but my engine, aside from an intake gasket leak, has been bullet proof.
If you look around the boards, about the only item that seems to pervasively afflict this engine is the intake gasket leak, mine needed this done 2 years ago, which is a 3 -4 labor hour job. Some C63 owners had cam sensor issues when their cars were new, I suspect that Mercedes got a bad batch of sensors from a supplier.
I think our engines are very well engineered and built and are more than o.k. reliability wise.
I'm going to keep my 07 a while longer, it is an outstanding all round Benz. Like you, I have 2 years of warranty remaining, but I do plan to sell it or trade it when I can get a reasonable price on a slightly used V8TT which is probably 18 months or so out.
In your case, sell it if you want something else, but I wouldn't due to concerns about the engine.

Did you see this thread? https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...8-defects.html
I actually had a lenghty discussion with the lead lawyer. I can only assume that there is enough proof or a paper trail that lead that law firm to move forward. They are in the business to make money after all.

Tyro will for once in his life make $$$$$$$$ while the rest might get a $5 coupon towards services.

Really, there aren't many issues with the M156 besides oil consumption. I've heard very little cases of actual failure. I'm not worroed in the least bit about this suit. I've owned my E63 for just over 4 years, and my C63 for 1 1/2 years. No issues with either paltform.

66k Miles on my 07 E63, Not a single engine problem.
Axle boot needs to be replaced. Dealer wants to replace whole new axle because they don't sell just the boot. But I got a custom shop to get it replaced soon, hopefully all goes well.
Also I did have a leak by my front oil cooler hose, they replaced all the parts under warranty.
Also engine mounts. Under warranty.
