Manual transmission
Has anyone installed a manual six speed in a W211 E63?

I would stick with the paddle shifters myself. just my .02 keep your M5.
|
 Stick with your M5!
|
Mercedes cant make a decent stick to save it's life
There hasn't been a stick shift AMG since the 1985 W124 Hammers Im with Marcus on this one |
you can always Renntech for these stuff.

I'm sorry but I had to log in to respond to this. The character of the AMGs and Mercedes in general does not suit a manual. I loved my E39 M5 and my E46 M3 in manual, I wouldn't have them any other way but at the same time I would never have bought a 55 if it weren't for the auto. Think if a Veyron was manual or a GT-R, it just doesn't suit the car, the engine and the whole dynamic. In the 55 you just mash your foot into the right pedal and hold on for dear life :D I also think one of the reasons the car gets such fast quarter mile times is the 5 spd. If you're looking for manual keep your M5 or try another car. Nobody from what I know has done a manual in the 55 and THANK GOD. It would be SO TACKY :puke:Imagine a manual SLR :puke:

come on, tacky??? Granted its nice having a auto, but a manual would have its rewards.

A manual transmission is offered in Europe. Mercedes attempts to have only what it perceives as luxurious vehicles in the US, but world wide it provides a variety of vehicles. Many of the high end vehicles are available with a stick. It is difficult to check out a car in Europe and then have it imported. It would be easier to convert one over here. My questions are if anyone has attempted it.

Who would go from a 7 speed electronic transmission (that can be up graded with "AMG Speed Shift") and has 3 shift modes, to a 6 speed manual?

Mercedes in their GB brochure was listing a E63 as late as 2011 with a manual 6 speed. I have heard of e63's in Greece and Spain offering a 6 speed option.

There's no manual that Mercedes makes that can handle the torque of our engines. If there was as stated by Mr Whopping 4 posts, it would be made by a outfit like Getrag as it did for the 6 speed Supra, Skyline, and the 7 speed found in the M5.
Here's a shot of the E Class 4 cylinder with a 6 speed. http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/cont...ansmission.jpg found on this webpage http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/cont...ines.0003.html |
Ferrari said it best, "The manual is dead"
If you can shift a manual in 60ms which is what Ferrari shifts are down to, more power to ya. |

Its just a matter of mounts/crossmembers, bellhousing bolt pattern, and driveshaft. I think an E55 with a manual would be cool.

You are right. An e63 with a stick is also a neat car. Mercedes uses the same six speed as BMW. I have ordered the bell housing through Mercedes in another country. It is a listed item. It is a tried and true part. I have driven a stick vehicle since the mid sixties and I am very comfortable with it. I can only assume that those who don't like a stick either haven't driven one much or don't know how to handle it.

Then once you over come that then you can start on the ECU and all the inputs and outputs that no longer exist because the TCU is gone, think that would be easy? Just ask any member that has changed the final drive ratio how easy that was, a 6 speed = 6X harder to do. |

Why is my left foot numb. Automatic & SBC in traffic, sweet, oh and I can still put my 722 in manual and pretend I am shifting, with no fear of missing a gear. |

Are you still subscribing to this pipe dream that's there a E63 6 speed? Do you believe in Unicorns? |

Manual transmissions are meant for sports cars. Automatics are for car companies that do not want their customers to smoke clutches and rev to 8000 and dump the clutch to save on warranty work. Automatics are for bracket racers that want to run consistent times, car companies that want to save money on warranty work and people that find drivng a manual to be too difficult/annoying etc. BUT YOU CAN SHIFT AS FAST AS AN AUTO IN A FERRARI. Big deal. I want a car to have fun in. And I for one think that rowing the gears manually in an E55 would be awesome. |

If the E55 was a 6 spd those 10 sec runs with cars under 600whp wouldn't be there just like the Nissan GT-R wouldn't be NEARLY what it is now without it's DCT. Have you seen how the UGR Gallardo struggles in those races in Russia because of it's manual or it's stupid e-gear? Manual is fun but if you want a car that's insanely fast and consistent manual is not the way to go. Neither is a torque converter auto but for THIS CAR, THIS CAR, THIS CAR (so you can read what I'm referring to) it's PERFECT. Go try to run 10s in an E39 M5 :rolf:
