The new Road and Track has a 0-100-0 MPH showdown of several high end cars. The E55 did it in 15.0 sec. Audi was 16.3sec. Other times to note. SL55 - 15.1sec. Ferrari 575M - 14.8sec. Porsche 996 tt x50 - 13.5sec. Lambo Murcielago - 14.2sec. Saleen S7 - 14.3sec. Most incredible was the Ferrari Enzo (tested independently) with a time of 11.7sec. Overall they seemed quite impressed with the E55.

Between the RS6 and E55 i wasn't really surprised.

It is the August 2003 issue. It is the cover story. Starts on page 62. The audi gets to 20 mph much quicker but the benz accelerates much harder the rest of the way up.

The real surprise is how it stacks up against the 575M. They both hit 100 in 9.8 sec. The E55 just takes 3 tenths longer to stop.

I am becoming more and more impressed with this car every day. Can't wait until break in is over As for the braking, considing the weight difference between the 575 and the E55 i would say thats pretty impressive for the E.

Man I must say I really enjoyed this article in the magazine! As others have said I wasn't surprised to see the E55 come out ahead, that thing is a rocket!

In the video, RS6 sounds amazing and M5 is not doing it's job....maybe we will wait for M5 V10.

R/T = Road and Track. I said "in" the R/T test, not "and" the R/T. Also, I thought the new Viper was an SRT. The R/T would be the old Viper which, it does in fact smoke.

Indeed. Your clarification is understood; my oversight. Many have not distinguished between R/T and SRT, which only adds an advanced element to the latter. (Another had implied a comment about "almost keeping up with the '03 Viper," so I thought this might be within the same vein.)

Your attention to detail is precise, which is refreshing. I am in concurrence with you. My reading error.

Off topic, re: "blocktrader," are you in the financial trading industry, perhaps via blocked accounts? Just curious.

Or, might this indicate something totally apart from this?

None of my business really, but I'm assuming "blocktrader" refers to the practice of trading "blocks" of stock, usually understood to be 10,000 or more shares at a time.

In the M/T issue, they said the RS6 comes on top... WHAT THE HELL? First, the E55 Has more power and is cheaper. Hows is that not the best sedan supercar? Guys at M/T are mental.

This was before the DiamlerChrysler merger and certain AMG officials took over the Viper program. The new Viper is something else. MotorTrend and the others well know this.

amg55 is right. Old nickname from brokerage business. Still use it because of my email address.

It's interesting that there is a new test between the RS6 and E55 in this months M/T. The E55 outaccelerates the Audi, but the audi grips better in general, and edges out the Merc overall. The interesting part is that both testers said, basically, that the Audi is too plain and they would rather have the E55.

Seems Boca Raton is loaded with brokerages.

I know a few there myself. (I'm in Lauderdale.)

And, indeed I think the E55 will be the overwhelming choice for most.

Motor Trend in the newest issue compare the two as well. "slowest of the two runs 4.3 second 0-60mph" when I read that I was like ...which means, they got the E55 to run 4.2 second 0-60 . That's some auto 996 Turbo time right there.
