Eurocharged H/E Install Question

I'm installing a E/C heat exchanger and I've got everything positioned where it belongs but now I'm not sure how to best attach the trans cooler to the bottom of the new H/E without damaging it. I remember seeing a couple people talking about how they did theirs, but I can't find them now... Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!

I drilled out the existing brackets and reused them. I drilled into the HE very carefully, using stainless steel rivets and installed it back in the same place. It makes the bumper bulge alittle, but not bad. A front lip will cover it up completely.

We use Zip ties on each side of the H/E for the Oil cooler to sit below the H/E. I belive the E/C H/E has a threaded nipple on the bottom of it for the cooler for it to thead in. Maybe Jake will chime in. All aftermarket H/Es seem to have a little bulge on the Stock E55 Bumper. Ours, E/C Etc. Unless you have a lip or an E63 conversion will it not be completly non noticable.

why not mount it behind the H/E?

Kickem 08-30-2012 09:32 PM

Thanks for the quick replies and the pics.... I'll try to drill out the old brackets and get it mounted up like RedBullJnky's illustration.

I've done two, and in both cases, just drilled out the lower portion (carefully) and used some very sort sheet metal screws

RedBullJnky 08-30-2012 09:57 PM

Yes, very carefully. I used a drill bit stopper on mine. If you go to far that HE is garbage. I did mine in my front driveway and have zero issues. Good luck to you!

So I finaly got the install wrapped up and love the look of that BIG h/e peering out through the black grill! I didn't realize that I would have to dremel out the two center mounting brackets on the bumper but it wasn't that big a deal. Got the tranny cooler all riveted in place and although it gives her a bit of a fat lip, I think it's a prety good trade off...
Thanks for the help guys!

is there a good retrofit tranny cooler that could be implemented up higher - say in front of the main radiator?

It's a pretty straight forward process. I ran a piece of clear tubing (1/4" I.D. I believe) from the bleed nipple on the intercooler line (it's just to the left of the SC clutch/pulley assembly and is capped off with a black end cap and hose clamp) to the coolant reservoir. Then I energized the IC pump with a jumper wire from the small convenience battery that is located under the cabin filter assembly. I recently replaced my pump with a new CM30 so I already spliced in a couple wire connectors and just unplugged the red wire and connected the positive side of the battery to this. When the coolant first started being pumped through the clear tubing there were lots of bubbles but as it ran for a couple minutes they became smaller and then disappeared completely. Disconnect the jumper wire, remove the clear tubing and replace the end cap and hose clamp....that's it. I'm sure there are other ways to bleed the system but this was very easy and worked well for me.

Nice! The fat lip is a small price to pay for a nice big H/E :y WELL done!!
