Off to Spa-Francorchamps

Let's see if Mercedes AMG GP has made any improvements. We live right in the area of some of the great tracks. Hockenheim is about one hour, Nordschleife about 45 minutes and Spa about 2 hours. I'll post up photos as I can.

Checked into race HQ at the Liege Crowne Plaza Hotel

Breakfast on Saturday morning

Our hospitality suite

Here it is

Me and my friend Ludwig from Italy who writes for an Italian motor sports magazine

A quick fill-up with ARAL (BP) 102

And then a quick stop on the way home (about 1 hour from the house)

Did not see any purpose going for a drive on the Nordschliefe today with a full tank, about 150 pounds of luggage in the boot and the one I love. Maybe next week.

All in all, not a bad weekend.

I was watching the the forecasts for days. Knew I would be driving through some rain enroute Friday afternoon, but I was confident Saturday and Sunday would be perfect. Saturday morning, the track was still damp, but as soon as the fog lifted and some cars got out, it dried out in no time. Just a little green from the rain.

BTW, the new security system for the passes is comprised of an embedded microchip that is scanned by a wireless scanner which is online to a server that logs you in or out. No more sending someone out with a handful of passes.

No I did not. Our suite was located on the approach to Eau Rouge. What my photos don't show very well is the grade (at least 5%) of the road and then the extreme incline of Eau Rouge. The F1 pilots never lift while the GP2 (quite frankly more fun to watch) GP3 and Porsche Super Cup all break at the approach - - - and they're going significantly slower. It's breathtaking!

Romain Grosjean is becoming known as the "king of crash." Quite frankly, I think he should be replaced as he simply has very poor judgment IMO. Alonso is fortunate he didn't have his head torn off. Just a few more centimeters was all it would have taken.

Here is a good link to the turn 1 incident:
