Bluetooth woes

Bluetooth woes
Dear forum,
I finally got around to picking up one of the OEM Bluetooth puck and I can't get it to work. First off, that thing is huge. I plug it into the dongle thing inside the console and press the tele button next to nav screen. It says phone not connected or some junk like that and it's at this point I should be able to connect. My phone Bluetooth is scanning and I push and hold the Mercedes star button on the puck, but nothing happens. No lights or nothing. What up with that?
Car is a 2006.
Also, there is a tiny little button on the puck next to the star button. What do?
