Fuel Smell in car...

Fuel Smell in car...
Have had my E55 now for about 4mo., but something new to me is the smell of fuel in my car. Started on Tuesday...and only notice it when I get in the car after it has sat for a few hours, goes away after a min or so of driving.
I did google it, saw a post on here from a few years ago, where it was the Fuel Sending Unit, IE failure or crack. Was just wondering if this is common and what others have experienced with this.
I don't have an extended warrantee, but have a good shop to go to...so don't have to deal with the dealership...just curious on potential cost...and also if there is other areas my mechanic should look at.
