Wheel Wells & Underside Cleaned: 7 years of Grime Removed - Pics

I bought my '06 when it was just over 2.5years old and in all the year sof ownership I never removed the wheels and cleaned the wheel wells or the underside of the car until this past weekend (long overdue!).

I only used soapy water and Simple Green and then I wire brushed the rust off the hats on the rotors and spray painted them with some high temp paint that I had lying around.

Everything cleaned up nicely...good for another 7 years! See you in 2020!

+1, or put a lot of WD-40 in your wheel wells, that'll keep the dirt/rubber from sticking.

Very nice! I cleaned mine about six months ago and it had 2inches of rubber built up. I'm gonna hate doing it again.

Nice. I'd like to see the front with the aluminum suspension bits.

Reminds me of my days on the Porsche 993 board where guys with more time than me would detail the wheel house and undercarriage. I love to see the aluminum castings all over the place...

Apparently Xenit works really good for this but I've never tried it.

Thanks again guys. I will certainly try and make the meet on the 11th.

This reminds me of a story about my next door neighbour. He looks after his cars religously - washed & polished every day; carpeted garage, that sort of thing. One day somebody came round to view the BMW 528i he was selling. Nice car. The prospective buyer looked underneath and asked:

"Have you had a stainless exhaust system fitted?
"Oh no - I just polish it!"
"I'm buying it"

I can't brag much myself - mine doesn't look that great underneath - but last time I took the wheels off, I cleaned the INSIDE of all the wheel arch liners.

There's always a build-up of fine mud/silt around the insides of the wheel arches, and don't ya know what that's going to do....

Nick :)

How did you get all that rubber off? I went at my rear wheel wells with bug&tar cleaner. Turned the rubber into tar and I figured I should quite while I was ahead!! Didn't even try the other side. Maybe not using the bug&tar cleaner would be better

FYI new factory wheel liners can be had for like $40 or so bucks. Rear ones come with that plastic vented section. Had to get one after a tire blew out and took a small chunk out of that little vented plastic part.
