both rears defalted after sitting few days...
 

After not driving for several days the rears only were sagging in back near to the lip of wheel well. I have pics if needed.

Of course I searched and saw lots of info on shocks and/or air struts?

After unarming car and just opening the door, i hearthe pump in rear inflating. It rose up and drives fine. Car seems great.

Should I:

1. Sell it now before I need a whole new rear setup?

2. Buy two rear shocks? Part #?

3. Buy new air struts, not correct term? Part #?

4. Wait til gets worse and keep on trucking? Will It burn out pump sooner if the leak is that slow?

5. I heard about coil over convert, but won't that be at least 2200 plus labor and misc?

Please do not sell car knowing there is something wrong with it.......
In my opinion, this is not right.

Mine has done the same thing twice in 10 months. It is a sporadic issue, as I let it sit a weeks at a time (I ride my MC most of the time), and never have issues. I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts to become consistent after sitting only a few hours.

Curious to see how much it would cost with labor to fix the slow leak. Is it shocks or leaking air struts? Both, newbie here.

May take it to an indy shop, would it show a code? Seems to be go down very slowly each day, if undriven it takes about 4 to 5 days to totally sag down to wheel well lip.

I wouldn't sell it privately without disclosing known issues. Trading to a stealership may be option down the road as they recondition it and back it.

I'll keep an eye on it, if driven daily its fine. But it seems it will sag everytime its parked for days. Not intermittent but predictable.

Arnott makes remanufactured ones, two come in a set(not sold individual), I think they don't have a reservoir anymore(other will chime in to correct me) so that is a plus and heard that the replacements were a little stiffer/sportier :zoom: http://www.carid.com/2005-mercedes-e...-10115551.html carid was the cheapest i found the Arnott A-2559 replacements around $710 bucks and arnott will give you 25$ for each old core. you can do a search for a DIY that is great! my Arnott A-2559 are being shipped as i type.:zoom:

I have found that happens to me after I use the raise feature, then lower the car back down from raised, before parking.

the arnott remans might just be the fronts? did the left front a month ago w/o star! it wasn't to bad, the rear replacements I think is the way to go unless you want coilovers! do some research on your own but this should get you started.

It is pretty common. Mine will do it if left in lowered position (start sagging in rear after a day or two), if left in raised position it will stay up for months (I leave for work for 3 months at a time and it is still up when I get home). Kind of weird it will do it only in lowered position, not sure what could be leaking. Many people have this same thing happen to them. Mine did it since I bought the car a couple years ago, bought a set of used airbags to keep just in case but never did anything with it since it has always been fine, just does the sagging if left for a day or two in lowered position.

Great info. I too heard Arnott was fronts only but maybe that was different.

I am waiting to hear from arnott. That link is for the rear I assume. Sighh of relief as at least it sounds like it could last for some time. And if it fails, its not 2500.00. I will try to keep it in raised mode for a bit to troubleshoot and add results.

I have had my e55 for more than 5 years and it has been like that from day one. After not driving the car for 2+ days the car tucks in the tires and the bumpers touch the ground. the second I open the door with the key in my pocket the car goes back to its normal hight. And again my car has been like that from day one and I don't see what the problem is. My car has been lowered with Star and I was thinking maybe its because of that. For me its a cool feature lol not a problem.

Mine does it all the way around, but if I drive it again, it instantly perks back up.

Arnott has rears now, and they are AMG specific. They ride better than the OE and twice the warranty. I put some on my last e55, they are great to deal with.
Might as well start saving your pennies and get this done. More than 9 times out of ten it is the rear units, not the pump.

Its pretty normal.. As long as it comes back up when you start it, your good.

Whewww.. cool. Resting easier now :) I did put it in raised up mode w/ sport 1 and then parked it. I will drive my 03 cobra for couple of days and let the e55 sit, just to see if it holds better, as a troubleshooting goof.

Great, 9 times outta ten it's the rears :(

Just wanted to post results of my test.

In Raised up mode and comfort settings on shocks, I let it sit. Urbanworm mentioned theirs did not sag when in Raise mode. After 3-4 days of sitting ONLY the Left rear started to sag (not completely on tire though)...

It seems that in lowered mode (maybe raiseed, have to check) my left side almost always is just a little lower, even after driving a bit and pump has been working. Maybe when I left it for a week, in lowered mode, the left sagged first and then the right one sagged after that. I was away so don't know for sure.

I also hear a little crackling/light tapping noise from the rear wheel wells only. almost like hot metal settling, but not from front. I did NOT sound like the pump as I heard that when it had to pump from total deflating when it sat for a week.

Questions:

1. If I don't do anything about this, will I eventually need a pump too (getting overworked)? Any disadvantage to waiting until something gets worse?

2. Can I just change out the left rear or do both have to be done?

3. Can a star System tell for sure what is going on relating to leaking? confirm issues?

I Hate when I check/look and see the left has slight less space in the wheel well.

$800 or so for a pair of Arnotts and they can be done with a friend or no friends help in about 3hrs with even just simple hand tools. I did mine and took some pics a while back. And yes it does away with the rear air resivor. It's like 7 or so bolts per side.

Mine did this after being gone for a 4 days. Opened the door and it raised back up. Seems common for these cars.
