Chawkins vs. STI Subbie
What seems to be a common occurence at our Caffeine and Octane now, I had a run in with a STI Subaru. I was on my way up to the show, sun rising, sipping on my red eye starbucks brew lol, when I see some HID's coming up fast in my rear view mirror.
The local authorities have cottoned on to the event, and are rampant on this interstate in Mexico, so I just continued listening to some Showtek, and sipping my morning beverage.
Well, dude parks up next to me and downshifts. Those subbies in my opinion sound amazing with an exhaust, very burbly and have a unique boxster sound coming from that motor. I put down my window to see what was up, and he gestured a friendly run. I gave him the hold on signal, and reached under my seat to open my cutouts, open headers were now in effect Looked like to me, he just saw a ghost. I looked up ahead to see if the coast was clear, and gave the 1-2-3.
We started in 2nd, at which he hung door to door with him getting a good brake boost hit. It sounded sick imo. Once I upshifted to 3rd, and ran that out to 120mph, I was 2 cars ahead and then shut it down.
I saw the dude at the show, and he said he was making in the low 400rwhp range. Pretty fast little skittle if you ask me

I agree about the Subies sounding good with exhaust.
I wish I could have seen his face when you motioned for him to hold on a sec, put down your coffee and opened your cut-outs.

Might be an even closer race if it was from a stop. The AWD launches the STi pretty far up. On a roll Subie's are not as quick because of trhe drag from the AWD system.
Pretty good race considering they aren't drag cars, nor geared for it.

There's a 500rwhp Sub in my neighborhood driven by a cop. The guy is cool ... says he runs low 11s with a poor launch and the car is every bit capable of 10s with a better launch.
One of the best sounding exhausts I've ever heard on that thing and the turbo sounds MEAN. Gotta love those little 4-banger turbo cars.

Very nice run brotha!
I ran one that said he made 450whp. From a dig he would jump out on me but I would quickly eat him up and sh*t him out. From a roll I always stayed in front.

I agree totally on the sound of the Subbie engines. Real nice. The only reason I haven't considered one is they always seem to have their engines out being repaired. Well, the modified ones. Heres a video of a STI at the last rental I attended. And a SL55.

^^ that's a beautiful E. I just sold those same wheels to a member.
Nice run Craig. Those cars do sound better than they look. Used to eat them up with my AMS Evo back in the day. Didn't like ySti's much.

STi's are no joke, especially in the 1/4 mile. However, Evos are what you really have to watch out for. They have more potential (in my opinion, which is shared by others) and the engine is easier to work on from a layout standpoint.

EVO FTW!!!!!!!!!!!! I got the opportunity to drive a few sti's and I can honestly say that they SUCK. Maybe they were not modded but my M3 in the sig pulled harder to 120 than the sti.
Also LOVE the fighter jet look of the evo.
