My mates E55 has caught fire twice whilst driving, both times caught in time

Both fires started at the Alternator/Voltage Regulator area

No need to say he's had electrical issues ever since

Yeah I saw that from stalking your old threads... Not sure why you want a 98-99 with the weaker front carriers, but I suppose you've got your reasons!

The 2001 "LCA" became mine officially as of today! Not sure how long I can leave it stock though.....too many cool ideas already.

[QUOTE=Denroll;6327538]Man, I feel so bad for the owner. I can't imagine what it feels like to helplessly stand there while the car you put so much time, effort, and money into burns to the ground.
Fire extinguishers are cheap. I picked up a 2-pack (like the rapper!) at Costco for $35. One I keep in the trunk and the other one is mounted to the wall in my garage. Most fires start fairly small, but with no way to extinguish them, they grow. I've seen pics of a Mercedes fire extinguisher that fits in one of the seat compartments like the first aid kit. I wanted to buy one, but didn't see any on eBay.

My Mustang street/road race car had an on board halon system hidden under the dash. All you could see is the little pull handle and the nozzle under the hood. I will be installing the same set up before I go to the time trials this year. Its a great piece of mind!!!

Hay , learned about car fires 25yrs ago, wife 's car caught on fire engine fire electrical while I was driving to work , I pulled over and a good Samaritan pulled up out of the blue and put it out with car fire extinguisher saved car and it was fixed and back on road .. Why watch your "MONEY BURN UP" I have a fire extinguisher in ever car I have and in garage . Its a safety must have especially in a "MODDED CAR" or any car . Oh I'm in MI, I want the blower or the whole engine.

yes, but it most likely has some bad boy headers and possibly E63 mufflers, we pretty much have to assume that it at least has headers

I couldn't bid on it because stupid Michigan requires a Michigan salvage bid card which I don't have for that state. When they fork lifted the car for you, you peak on the bottom to see what exhaust it has? Headers?

It had headers and 3" stainless vbanded exhaust. Borla straight throughs in place of the rear cats and res. Stock mufflers I believe, haven't checked the PN yet or looked any closer.

Does the supercharger seem rebuildable or is it melted like that intake pipe?

Blower seems to be in perfect shape so far. I will completely tear it down and check for issues with seals and any unreasonable wear. Heads may not be salvageable since the rocker cages are malformed. Haven't gotten to the shortblock or the built transmission yet
