Purchasing Advice: '06 Flint Gray E55

Hi all,

Due to the CLK BS that I wanted no longer available, I’m back to looking at W211 E55. There is a particular one I will most likely be purchasing this weekend if the test drive/visual inspection is good. So far, it seems like the vehicle has been fully maintained with the dealership having done the following within the last 2k miles:

- New supercharger belt
- Spark Plugs
- Valve Cover Gasket/Breather Hoses
- Engine Mounts
- New tires
- New Rotors/Pads
- Coolant Flush
- Convenience Battery
- Oil Change

Should I be alarmed that all of this maintenance was done prepping it for sale? My brother had an e55 and I remember these case can be prone to various issues.

Here’s the link if anyone can chime in:

Flint Gray 06 E55

Thoughts on price/condition? They aren’t budging on price and I’m trying to get them to throw in the missing 2nd key as part of the deal.

Looking to seal the deal this upcoming weekend so I appreciate any feedback you may have.

There is another one in NC but it’s a 2005 without Pano. The pictures aren’t representative of a dealer as the car seems to be dirty…

Decent price with some good options. Hate the wood color, otherwise looks nice. Depends how it drives pretty much

Have you seen it in person? I had a similar incident where on the dealer site it looked mint... and then I showed up in person unannounced since I happened to be in the area. The car was sitting on the rims in the back, suspension totally bottomed out. Filthy inside. Driver's right side dynamic was't working. Pass massage wasn't working. Transmission was taking ages to change gears...

They've gone from $24k about two months ago to $19,2 last time I looked.

But it looked spotless online.

Always check it out in person if you can. You may want to have them pull the service history if they have it to make sure the fuel sender recall and others were reported done and also see if you can get and keep the other service history that could be on file.

I am also recently a new owner of a Flint Gray e55... I didnt realize this color was sought after

Similar situation here... slightly higher mileage. Mine was super clean inside and out. One owner and the owner of the car was a Service Manager for the dealership. The thing was meticulously maintained and once I saw it in person/drove it I knew it would be mine. I ended up paying $18k out the door for mine... again with slightly higher mileage. But with the 1 owner/service records/buying from the original dealership... I had the utmost confidence in my decision.

Within putting the first 500 miles on it the airmatic system went out. Point is, with these cars there are some gremlins that can sneak up on you unannounced but it was because of that fact that I was so picky about who my seller was. If the ownership history is clean and the dealership has a good reputation then I say go for it.

For me, it was a car I had lusted after for 10 years since I was a pimply face kid detailing cars at my local MB dealership. If you find the right one the pros far out weight the cons of e55 ownership.

Sold - 05' E55
Looks nice -
Good thing about buying from a MB dealership, if you see something you don't like they'll more then likely replace it? (Reasonable parts)
Request the maintenance history.
Are you from FL?

Looks nice! Great color. I am shocked that "new tires" from a dealer is a new set of Michelins. Usually here it means a set of Chinese no-name tires.

I think it is a pretty good deal considering the options it has. I would pay that for it out the door.

Looks like a nice one and really like the options.

For comparison, here's one in Dallas, TX, but it's an '03 without pano or ventilated seats. This dealer moves a lot of Mercedes.

68.5K miles for $16K - http://www.texascarsdirect.com/inven...es-benz-341903

Check, the notorious fuel sending unit for leaks, fuel smell underneath the rear seats, sbc unit for the brakes ,and the crank position sensor.
Other than that, you should be good to go!!

thanks ATX...

For some reason this car appeals to me because all of the recent maintenance they have performed on it. They had it listed at 24900 two months ago...didn't move and greatly reduced the price this week to get it moving...

Just wonder if there's more to this car as to why they replaced so many things...

shouldn't the fuel system be covered anyhow?

BTW, tolentino is my middle name

How the hell would I be able to check the crank position sensor within a reasonable amount of time. I guess it's accessible and I can do a test using multimeter...

From the photographs, it looks really nice and heavily optioned. It has the voice control and telephone that mine doesn't have (wished I had it).

The brown wood is a bit of an unexpected surprise.

Mileage is not especially low, but at $19,800, it's a very good price! Keep in mind, these cars will do 250,000+ miles with proper maintenance.

Looking at the Carfax report, hard to say if it was maintained at the Mercedes-Benz dealer. Gotta check that Maryland mechanic out. Ask for the full maintenance history of the car.

Otherwise, it does look good!

I'm officially an owner of the vehicle. This car was lady owned, mint interior and all required maintenance was done.

Flint gray is a nice color in person.

Out of curiosity, why does someone in the market for a $70K+ car (CLK Black) then revert to a W211 E55?

If you've got $70G to play with, why not a W212 Bi-Turbo?

Because the two cars I want in my garage is an e55 and BS.

Now I'm looking for a black series. I'm just going to be patient and wait for a Mars Red one :-)
